DIY CNC Enclosure Cutting Tutorial - Probotix Fireball V90

In this video I show how I went about cutting the front panel for a plastic ABS enclosure from Radioshack. I cut holes for switches, a keypad, and an lcd character display. I go through the the steps to make it. I start with thinking about it and getting a better idea of what I want to make. Then I take dimensions of the parts. Next I use the dimensions to create a 3D model and then export the model as a 2D dxf for CamBam. I use CamBam to create the tool paths and G-Code. I then cut that part and show it as a finished design. There are many techniques that I discuss in the video which are very valuable to learn if you haven't already seen them.

This is a quick video of my new Fireball V90 milling machine. I made a coin holder in this video out of .093in Lexan sheet. It will tell you my entire tool/software setup in the video. It will also walk you through a brief run down of what has to be done to from modeling to meshcam to emc. Lots of pictures and a cool video. Micro Camera Circuit Mod!

This is a very simple mod for a KODAK FUNSAVER disposable flash camera. It allows you to take the large bulky circuit that you get and turn it into a 1.5cm by 1.5cm circuit that charges capacitors faster than the unmodded circuit. In some places the video is kind of fast so you may need to pause to read the directions. If you have an questions you can send me a pm. Monster 800cc Go Kart - Engine Test 1

This is a test video of a go kart that I am currently building. The base frame was originally a 150cc 2 seater SunL go kart. That frame has been totally revamped with the addition of a monster Onon p220g 800cc twin cylinder engine. The coolest thing about it is that the cylinders are in an opposing configuration (boxer engine) unlike the more common v setup. The go kart is very close to actually driving it just needs a clutch system to be put in and a bunch of little things need to be finish (wiring, seat). I should be getting the parts soon for a big double belt tensioner clutch (pulleys, belts, idler pulleys). When finished the top speed will be around 70mph with about 120 ft-lbs of torque hitting the rear wheels under max rev. TURN UP YOUR VOLUME AND BASS!

Sparkfun stepper motor and easy driver v3

This is a video of the stepper motor that Sparkfun sells as well as the easy driver that they sell. They are hooked up together and then the arduino controls the easy driver. The easy driver is powered by a 14.4v drill battery and the arduino is powered by 5v usb power. The program on the computer was written in visual studio 2008 and it essentially forms the correct output string (character count, direction, value) and then sends the string out the serial port. Coding the arduino was the interesting part, I have written a program that allows %100 percent control of the stepper motor down to a single microstep in either direction forward or backwards. The maximum value that it can do at once is 65,535 which is the max capacity of the integer i used to store the value on the arduino. Sparkfun stepper motor and easy driver v3 serial control

This is the 2nd video of the stepper motor. In this video the same hardware setup is used but the software is different on both ends. The arduino code was modified to support full speed control on top of the microstepping and directional control. The vb.net application was also beefed up with many more features including speed control, serial options ect.... In the video you may notice the box does not always spin as far as I said it would. This is because nothing but friction is holding the box onto the shaft. The motor vibrates a lot at slow speeds and this causes the box to slip on the shaft instead of holding on. When I put the piece of tape on it the rotation is 1 to 1 because it doesn't slip off. Joystick robot motor

This is a small project I have been working on to control a vex motor and eventually a full blown robot from the computer via a joystick. It uses a basic Saitek joystick hooked up to a custom C# program which gets the axis and button values from it via directx directinput. The values are then scaled to 0 to 180 and sent out over serial to the arduino in much the same manner that my serial controlled stepper motor worked. When the arduino receives the instructions it then extracts the value and sets the motor to the value (speed). It can also work for a servo motor by simply changing the cable. This system will soon be deployed a robot similar to by bluetooth tank but it will have a live video feed on the computer screen and it will be controlled via a joystick instead of keys!!! This is a simple mod that i made that should take you no longer than 5 minutes. It allows you to turn a servo into a motor that rotates a full 360 instead of 100 degrees. Final stepper motor PC program easy driver v3

This is the last video of the serial stepper motor alone, it will come back on sometimes later but in conjunction with other stuff like in a robot. This video shows 2 important things, the heat sinking with fan cooling of the easy driver, and the final PC program that is available for download. All of these things come together to create a continuous duty fully functional serial controlled stepper motor! The most important thing so far is the heat sink, this took the drivers duty cycle from like 10 minutes on and 5 minutes for cooling to continuous duty non stop. RC Airsoft Gun - Wii Remote

This is a little something I whipped up in a few hours. I basically attached a vex servo to the trigger of a Hi Capa 5.1 which is then connected to an arduino usb board. The usb board is connected to my laptop which is connected to the wii remote via a bluetooth connection. I wrote an application in vb.net using the wii mote managed library (I didn't make it) that will send serial data to the usb board if the wii mote data meets a certain criteria. The gun is fired if the trigger (button B) on the wii remote is pressed or if the accelerometer in the nunchuck detects a large increase in gravity like a (punch). Prosthetic Hand - High School

This is an animatronic/prosthetic hand that I made for the 2011 VA State TSA Competition. It took 4th place (would have been first) because the judges took off points for something they thought be violated but we really didn't. Its sad when they take points like that and never ask to clarify before they do it. I will be posting more information later on. Maybe one day I can hook up the motors to nerves and see if I can control the hand with no sensor glove. Would be interesting. This is a total longshot compared to the robotic hands being made at labs but unlike them I don't have a ten million dollar R&D budget!

This is a mini G-Force Accelerator that i made, it works very good and it spins very very fast. I calculated the speed of this robot and at peak speed it reached about 55.7mph, i used an optical shaft encoder and a digital timer in the coder to find the rpm and from there i found out the speed.

This is a robot that i built a couple days ago, it is not that complicated. This robot is able to climb things without having all of the shock from the collision transfered to the main unit with the motors and the micro controller. The wheels are attached via a metal bar to the chassis which allows the wheels to go up an down freely, they are then secured to the main unit with rubber bands which absorb the impact and allow the unit to flex. If i decide to build off of this design i will probably put springs on instead of rubber bands so that it can handle a heavier robot.

This is the first second video in a small series I am making to show how easy CNC cutting is. This video will give you the basic idea and premise behind taking you idea or design and turning into something the machine can understand. I show the entire modelling process in Inventor although most will use other CAD systems it is similar. Then I show the CAM program CamBam taking the dxf export from Inventor and with a few clicks and keystrokes turning it into G-Code. I have Inventor as my CAD system but unfortunately most people cannot buy this do to its extreme cost $2000 +. I have a student version which was free but unless you are a high school or college student you cannot get a student version. Same goes with Solidworks and most big software packages. There are tons of much cheaper packages out there so google around and find one that you like and has good support. Just make sure that you can export 2D dxf's of faces (ask on forums) or if you can export 3D .stl files for when you get more in depth. CamBam can be downloaded online for free (older version) or it can be downloaded with a 40 use unrestricted trial for free. Once the trial runs out you have to pay $150 for it. In my opinion that $150 is a fantastic investment as CamBam is an incredibly diverse program at a great price. Feel free to message me any questions. Hope you enjoy! RC Tank - Bluetooth

This is a small tank robot that I made this weekend. The idea behind it was to completely remove the vex micro controller from the equation and add some new hardware in. I used an arduino diecimila usb board as the brains of the robot, the sensors are all from vex (ultrasonic, and light). The wireless connection is established with a bluesmirf rp-sma from sparkfun.com, it acts as a wireless serial cable to pass data to the arduino and back to the computer. The camera as well as the micro controller are individually powered by separate slim 4.8v battery packs from onlybatterypacks.com. On the software side visual studio.net 2008 was used to program and application to use the W,S,A, and D keys to drive the robot as well as provide sensor data.

Autonomous Rappelling Robot - Vex

This is a robot that i made that is capable of rappelling off of the top floor to the bottom floor and it can also climb to the second floor. This is only V1.0, in the future i plan on having a robot capable of climbing much larger cable without being pre-attached to the cable it will be able to find the cable attach and then climb it. I don't know how exactly this happened in the game but its pretty funny. The chopper was spawned automatically when it was called in by another player. I got in and the helicopter was launched over the water. If you can replicate this please let me know!
