How to Buy a Car: Top 6 Tips to Buy New Cars details the top six things new car buyers don’t investigate, but should: NEW CARS: BUILD DATE A listener of mine on Radio 2UE in Sydney put a deposit down to buy a new car in January 2015. It turns out the new car - a Suzuki S-Cross - was actually built in 2013. The compliance plate went on in 2014, and the new car was set for delivery in 2015. Disaster. Get a discount on your next new car if you’re actually buying old stock - last year’s model - because you are certainly going to pay for it at trade-in time. NEW CARS: SPARE TYRE When you buy a car, check the spare tyre. Space saver spare tyres are one of the car industry’s great, enduring frauds. They are of absolutely no benefit to you on a new car. They’re limited to 80km/h, and they don’t grip the road very well. Always investigate your intended new car’s spare tyre, at the dealership, before paying a deposit - and sometimes you can negotiate to fit a full-sized spare when you buy the new car. If it’s critical to the new car sale, the car dealer might even throw it in for free. If you only ever drive 15 or 20km from home in suburbia, space-savers are probably OK. But if you get out on the highway, even occasionally, don’t risk your life by buying a car with a space-saver. They’re a joke. NEW CARS: LIGHTS You don’t normally test drive new cars at night, right? But there are two things you really should check here: outside the new car, you need to know whether the headlights - and in particular the high beams - are adequate. Some new cars are just anorexic in the high beam department. Again, not so important if you only ever drive in the city, or suburbia. But very important in the country. Inside the new car, the reverse applies. Dimmers on instruments are great for driving in isolated areas at night - you dim the instrument lights down to maximise night vision out there on the road ahead. Very important. But the big, fat centre LCD display often doesn’t dim sufficiently (or at all) for night driving. NEW CARS: DEPRECIATION There are two ways to lose money on a car. You can pay too much for it up front, or the depreciation can burn you at the back end of the deal. OK - all cars depreciate, but some depreciate like Dresden on the ides of February, 1945. A classic example here was in last month’s Ford Territory review - which Ford fans hated, principally because it’s such a lemon. Mechanically as well as on the depreciation front. It pays to do your homework on depreciation - and here, past performances are excellent indicators of the future. NEW CARS: UPDATE TIMING You don't want to buy a nice new whatever, and see the manufacturer upgrade it four weeks later. Even a mid-life upgrade is a bit of a disaster because a) it usually comes with more standard equipment at the same price and b) the one you bought - the suddenly ‘old’ model - becomes instantly obsolete and its value takes an immediate hit. You need to let your keyboard do the walking here: google the car you want and keywords like update, upgrade, plus the current year and the next year. Find out what’s going on in the near future. NEW CARS: FIRE SALES Here's what the car industry does with its marketplace dogs. When all else fails, and sales have flatlined, the manufacturer bends over and drops its pants. Every time. They fire-sale the price in an attempt to prop up or stimulate sales. Generally unsuccessfully. Holden dropped its pants on the latest Cruze and Commodore, and Ford has just played the same undignified card with the Territory. Although none of them put it like that in the press releases... So I guess that's good news if you desperately want a Cruze, a Commodore or a Territory… Of course, if you actually bought one of these marketplace lemons a few months earlier, guess what happens to the value of your car? It just evaporates. Desperation discounting by manufacturers slashes the same amount from the value of the lemon you own - because used car prices vary directly in line with replacement cost. So there you go: Six things you probably weren’t considering while you’re poring over the specs and the pretty pix of your possible next new vehicle.

In this video I go over the basic checks, and practices that one needs to do when buying a new old car. If you stick with this guide then you should greatly reduce your chances of getting stuck with a problem stricken car. Also, this video is intended to address the needs of a cheap used car. I say in the video between 1 and 3 thousand dollars. If you are purchasing a more expensive car you may also need to check into if it has a salvage title, or has it just been painted, and other things, but given the price range this video deals with, those things are not important. All DIY repairs, or modifications, you perform to your car are made at your own risk. Sometimes, even if you've done everything the right way, you can destroy, or damage, a piece, or part. You must understand this; part of doing a repair, and/or modification is messing up sometimes. Also, if for some reason, I do give incorrect instructions, and something breaks because you followed my instructions, I still will not reimburse, or pay, in any way, for whatever cost that may be incurred due to following my wrong instructions. Don't do anything to your car unless you yourself feel comfortable, & confident in doing so. Fixbook DIY Car Repair

Full details here: https://autoexpert.com.au/buying-a-car/top-10-tips-used-car-buyers-australia Buying a used car is more complex than most people think. Here’s how to sidestep the lemons, dodge the dogs and otherwise stack the deck in your favour. I’m John Cadogan from AutoExpert.com.au - the place where Aussie new car buyers save thousands off their next new cars. Hit me up on the website for that. More than one in every four used cars sold in Australia hides a potential problem. There are nearly 4.3 million vehicles listed on the official Personal Property Securities Register (where the vehicle forms the security over someone’s loan). The average cost of owning a lemon is up to $2000. Ouch. If you’re in the market for a used car, here’s how to stack the deck in your favour and avoid an administrative and financial disaster. In the spirit of full disclosure: This report was sponsored by http://www.carhistory.com.au/AutoExpert I’ve been recommending them for years. They’ve been kind enough to support the production of this used car buyer protection series. But the words and opinion here are my own - this is not a paid advertisement. CarHistory offers a simple, online report that takes just a few minutes and costs less than $40. That’s basically all it takes to step out of the administrative minefield and drive off in a high quality used car that you’re certain is not a lemon. The CarHistory check even comes with a vehicle buyback insurance guarantee that essentially takes risk right off the table. For more detail on protecting your own best interests, visit http://www.carhistory.com.au/AutoExpert If you visit that dedicated AutoExpert landing page you’ll save 20% at CarHistory between now and 31 December 2017. Tell your friends. There are three major administrative speed humps on the road to avoiding a lemon. The car could be stolen, it could be a repaired write-off being sold under the radar, or it could be the security on someone’s loan. Izzy Silva is the General Manager of Consumer and Digital Marketing at CarHistory. "Just to give you some flavour of how Australians research for cars, they spend nearly seven months researching for a holiday, but they spend 1-2 hours researching for a used car. A massive difference. A holiday is a week or two, a car is a lifetime investment potentially handing it down to your kids or family so when you consider those facts, consumers should spend a little more time and effort researching a car. And as you mentioned, CarHistory is a comprehensive automotive bureau, so we provide the facts behind the vehicle." Bear in mind that looks can be deceiving - a great-looking car being sold by an apparently fine, upstanding seller can still be a lemon in one (or all) of these ways. And, if it is, this will be a disaster for you. The simple message here is: You can choose the vehicle with your heart, if that’s how you roll, but you have to buy it with your head.

4 Basic Negotiation Tips For Buying a Used Car Online (The Easiest Way to Negotiate a Car Deal) In this video I’m going to share 4 simple tactics I used to save 10% or $2,000 on my recent used car purchase. These are tips that have worked for several people I know personally and they work. Recently we purchased a new vehicle (Cut to me by the Rav 4) and list details 1. Step 1 find the car you want online, but don’t you dare go down to the dealership. pick up the phone and ask to speak to their internet sales manager and be ready to make an offer Cut to me calling the dearlship After you have called the dealership and made a starting offer see what they counter back with. Follow up by asking them how much the car would be out the door with taxes and licenses. 2. Stall the deal At the point tell them you will need to call them back because you need to discuss the details over with your wife. If you can get their e-mail address or cell phone number to text them you will have a huge advantage because each communication following you will have more time to strategically negotiate the deal. Because you have asked how much the car will be. They will think they have you at that point. Text or e-mail if they are able to hold the car and for how long. They will likely respond by saying they can only hold it for that day and no longer. 3. Need additional time- At this point text or e-mail them back and say you will need additional time to get your funds together and will not be to able to come to the dealership. Mention that you might consider the car in the future if it is still on the lot and then walk away from your phone for a while. Buying a BMW? My 4 Tips Help You Buy a Reliable BMW Listen, it's easy to go out and buy a BMW. Any person can go and purchase a car (as long as they have the credit or the cash, that is). However, if you'd like to ensure that you have a great, reliable BMW, well then you need to look at things a little differently. I give you 4 tips in this video to make sure you end up with a #reliable #BMW. Research - Obviously, you need to start with some research to make sure you understand the big issues with the different BMW models you're looking at. Don't stop until you understand what you can and can't live with. Inspection - This is true when you're buying any used car. Make sure you get it inspected whether or not you're buying it with the dealer. Anyone who says you can't take the car elsewhere to have an independent inspection is hiding something. Just do it. Satisfy your Curiosity - Make sure you ask every question you have in your head. Simply put, don't settle for getting half the story. SUBSCRIBE HERE!! https://www.youtube.com/user/kevinhunter7 How to buy a car, truck, van, suv, or any type of vehicle from a car dealership. From the Author of "How to Beat the Dealers Finance Office," "Car Scam of the Decade," and "13 Car Buying Mistakes," here are the 10 best car buying tips to beat the car dealer as presented by Kevin Hunter! Knowing the true cost and hidden fees of a car deal is essential to car buying. Since publishing "13 Car Buying Mistakes," Kevin Hunter has received hundreds of requests to publish a step-by-step process of the homework required to buy a car. The TOP 10 TIPS for the Best Car Deal presented by Kevin Hunter on this video are key to avoiding the gauntlet that many auto dealers have waiting for their customers. CATEGORIES: car, truck, suv, auto, used cars, autos, mechanic, automobile, vehicle, dealer, automotive news, auto shop, warranty. Kevin Hunter spent countless hours researching and compiling the information and data shared on this video. We hope you enjoy it! If you've seen videos like "Top 20 Ways to Beat a Car Dealer | Auto Expert John Cadogan | Australia," you're going to love how this video by Kevin Hunter hits the American car market. People in the car business who profit from your mistakes by taking advantage of you will disagree with the content, but don't be fooled by their rhetoric. A dishonest car salesperson absolutely loves an ignorant car shopper. We will try to help you avoid the common mistakes, and assist you in sorting the facts from the baloney in this business. If you use this information, you'll find yourself walking away with a much better car deal. If you don't, you don't have much room to complain when this stuff happens. How do Car Dealers rip you off? This video presents 13 different car buying mistakes that you can't afford to make when car shopping. If you're going to car shop and don't want to be taken advantage of, it's up to you to learn about car salesmen and auto dealerships, and the dirty tricks they play to rip people off. You also need to learn about the scams and inappropriate products sold by both new and used car dealers, and why some things dealers offer should NEVER be purchased. These include things like the theft protection scam, GAP insurance that is sold to consumers who either didn't need it, or could have purchased much cheaper from their own insurance agent, and extended warranties that are often sold to buyers who didn't want them or need them. To make matters worse, there are also thousands of car dealers who employ finance officers that are some of the most unscrupulous people you'll ever meet, willing to tell you any lie they can come up with to sell you everything I've described, and more. The worst ones will even claim your interest rate on your loan is only available if you buy all the added products they are proposing. They claim the 'bank' wants the car protected.... which is BS... On the contrary, the bank wants your loan as small as possible so if they need to repossess the car, they can get their money out of it. This video was published to help you discover how you can save time and money on your next new or used car purchase by doing your homework first, and then going car shopping as an informed buyer. Is it unreasonable to expect a little old-fashioned honesty? We don't think so, but we are more than amused by the countless car salespeople or car dealers who contact us and state that we are making a 'small problem' sound far worse than it is. They also tell us the entire video is completely fabricated baloney. Really? Are you kidding us? We know there are honest people in the car business, and we receive positive comments from many of them, but it's definitely a buyer beware world out on the car lot! For all of you car buyers who are well steeped in reality, if you watched the video "Confessions of a car dealers backroom" you need to see this video. By understanding what mistakes to avoid, you'll not only become a smarter car buyer, but you'll also better understand what not to tell a car dealer when buying a car. Be smart, do your homework, and you'll come home with a car deal that's good for you and the dealer. After all, that's what fairness is all about. Everything we talk about has to do with fairness and honesty, and that works both ways. Respect the dealers right to make money in your quest to get a fair and honest car deal, proving to them you're an honest person too. It's this kind of attitude by car dealers and consumers alike that will change the car business. We wish you the best! Kevin Hunter resides in Longview, Washington with his wife Stephanie and daughters Jackie and Alison. Shows include The Business Forum Show, TBFS Radio, Street Wyze, You Don't Know JACKIE,and Children's Stories. These are just a few of the broadcasts and studio based video productions he does. Buying a used car can be the fastest, simplest and cheapest way to your perfect car. Subscribe for more videos from Auto Trader every Friday: http://bit.ly/1zGalWt You don't need to be a mechanic to inspect a used car, but there are a few golden rules. • Get a car history check to establish if the car has any outstanding finance, has been stolen or written off • Examine the car's documents -- logbook, service history and previous MOT certificates -- to spot if the car has been clocked • Check the car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the base of the windscreen, under the bonnet and stamped into the chassis under the carpet beside the driver's seat for signs of tampering, and make sure they match the VIN recorded in the logbook • Look for rust, mismatched paint and uneven gaps between body panels • Make sure all the car's features work • By reading key documents including the V5C (logbook), service history and MOT certificates then checking key points around the car, you will be able to quickly assess if the vehicle you are viewing is as described in its advert The test drive is your chance to asses every aspect of the car, from how it feels on the road, to making sure all its equipment works correctly. • Always take a test drive of at least 15 minutes and on different types of road • Arrange suitable insurance cover before you drive the car • Start the car when the engine is cold, and check for excessive smoke and unusual noises • Check the gears, brakes, steering and suspension work as they should, with no unusual noises and vibrations Welcome! Here are the updated top 10 tips for beating a car dealer and buying a cheap new car without getting ripped off. It's how you can fight back, and organise a much better deal on basically any new car. Buying a car is not fun. Everyone on the other team is match fit, and systematically incentivised to rip you off - if you let them. But it doesn't have to be this way. Here's how to recognise the car dealer's tricks and sidestep the traps. Let's focus on the car you want. It might not look like a commodity, but that's exactly what it is. There's no qualitative difference between the car you want at Dealership A and the same car at Dealership B. They came out of the same factory. Their mothers can't tell them apart. The dealership doesn't change them in any way, or add intrinsic value. The dealership is actually just a fancy vending machine. When you're buying a commodity, the only factor that matters is the price. Lowest price wins. That's what you need to deliver. For more advice, fill in the contact form on the right at www.autoexpert.com.au - I'll help you see just how low the price on your new car really goes. I'll also show you how to put your trade-in out to tender and arrive at the highest possible price, if you lack the time or the inclination to sell your old car privately. Buying a car is not an uplifting experience. It should be, but it's not. It's challenging, stressful and generally fairly unpleasant. But it doesn't have to be a rip-off. You absolutely can drive away in a cheap new car without being absolutely violated by a car dealer. Especially now.

Buying your first BMW is one of the greatest accomplishments of life (maybe), but with all of the cars on the market, it's easy to buy the wrong car. Here are 4 tips for buying a used BMW. Check out Downforce: https://downforce.xyz/ -------------------------------------------------------- Read More About It: https://thebreakdown.xyz/4-tips-you-need-to-know-before-buying-a-bmw/ -------------------------------------------------------- Last Video: https://youtu.be/hPPFyBmxPJg -------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe!: https://TheBreakdown.xyz/SubAuto Our Website: https://TheBreakdown.xyz/auto Facebook: https://Facebook.com/BreakdownAuto Instagram: https://Instagram.com/BreakdownAutomotive Email: [email protected] -------------------------------------------------------- Get Your Canon T5i ► https://TheBreakdown.xyz/T5i -------------------------------------------------------- Get Your Rode Shotgun Mic ► https://TheBreakdown.xyz/Rode -------------------------------------------------------- Let’s jump into our first tip for buying a BMW by keeping it simple. If you’re looking for your first BMW, take almost everyone’s advice on this one. Avoid buying the 7 Series - specifically the 750Li. And yes, this one comes for personal experience, which is why these tips to follow before buying a used BMW are so important. The BMW 7 Series is one of the greatest executive luxury sedans on the market, and very few cars come close to the speed, prestige, and luxury that the 7 Series offers. But let’s look at it logically and break down why you should avoid the higher end BMWs for your first choice. First off, there’s the engine. The 4.4 BMW V8 used in the 7 Series is an incredibly powerful and smooth engine - when it work. The problem comes when you realize that the engine seems to pretty much self destruct after some mileage. From valve stems to vanos systems to leaking, the BMW V8 in these just aren’t what they’re all cracked up to be. The power of depreciation works wonders on car lovers. We’re able to pick up used vehicles at huge discounts from MSRP, but sometimes that depreciation is deceptive. Sure, the 7 Series is one hell of a deal for $20,000, but before you take the plunge, look at why the market justifies such a low price for one of the most exclusive luxury sedans. The 7 Series (and even high end 6 Series models) run through depreciation as quickly as valve stems, and while I love the 7 Series, it’s a horrible place to start your BMW ownership. I’ve found more success with sticking to more common models like the 3 Series, 4 Series and base 5 Series. Obviously M cars are excluded from that list as they have their own quirks that we’ll save for another time. Most of this video is geared at someone who is looking for their first BMW and on a smaller budget of less than $15k - especially considering that most used BMWs can be picked up for a small fraction of what they originally sold for. This tip may not apply to most people, but if you have a higher budget, you should really look into a certified pre owned BMW. Having a CPOd BMW will give you an extended warranty, which is going to become very helpful over the ownership of the car. On top of that, though, the car has to go through a series of tests before it can even be offered as a certified pre owned car. With the CPO warranty, you should have coverage for 100,000 or 6 years. You’ll also get roadside assistance, which would have been handy in the past with this 4 Series… **INSERT CLIP OF TOW TRUCK** You’ll end up paying more for a car with this, but if it fits within your budget, it’s the best type of warranty to have. Most of the time, aftermarket warranties are near useless when it actually comes down to fixing an issue. I know this is a given, and I talk about it a little in this video about mistakes to avoid when buying a car. But to keep it simple, if you’re looking for a used BMW, test drive a few to get a true feel for how the cars are supposed to run. When we bought the 7 Series back in October 2016, we took a trip down to Atlanta to test drive a few, and I’m extremely happy we did. We were able to pick up on transmission issues, electrical issues, and interior defects just from spending some time with different cars that were all supposed to be the same. This last tip is one that I mention over and over again, but I try to make it clear in every one of these buyers guides. If you’re not a certified BMW mechanic or even competent enough in your skills to fix most things, have someone who is look at it before you buy it. BMWs are tuned for a good time - not a long time. At least, not anymore. Sure, I’ve driven BMWs with near 400,000 miles on the odometer, but they’ve all had multiple transmissions, electrical issues, and other issues that were becoming noticeable. Spend the $150 to get someone to inspect your car.
