Why is it so Hard to Get to The Hollywood Sign?

11:59
People travel to Los Angeles from all over the world to see the Hollywood Sign. But once they arrive in LA, will they ever actually be able to get there? Misleading Google Maps directions, false city signage, road barricades, hidden trailheads, and lots and lots of fencing. These are just a few of the obstacles that you will have to overcome if you want to get that perfect selfie in front of The Hollywood Sign. But who is behind this effort to keep people away from the sign? It is the residents of Beachwood Canyon -- the wealthy neighborhood that sits right below the sign. This group of homeowners has been working hard for years to keep tourists out of their neighborhood. And their success has put the Hollywood Sign at the center of an ongoing political battle in Los Angeles. Will the sign be open for all to see? Will it be accessible to tourists? To millions of LA area residents -- from Beverly Hills to Inglewood, Santa Monica to Compton, West Hollywood to the Valley? Or, will it be fenced off, hidden away behind private gates, special parking districts, and miles of confusing hiking trails? These are the questions that have launched an ongoing controversy surrounding the Hollywood Sign. Starting with this video, we are going to dive into this controversy and help you get a better handle on an issue that most people don't even know exists, but that affects millions of lives every year. And while not getting a selfie in front of the Hollywood Sign may be far from the biggest problem in America today, it is also a glaring example of how wealthy citizens can exercise highly disproportionate influence in our government. That said, there are at least two sides to every story, and in the next video, we will speak with some of the Beachwood Canyon residents to learn more about why they feel tourism has become so untenable in their neighborhood. Walking around Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California 【4K】

Hollywood Blvd, the most famous street in Hollywood. Though it might be rare to see a real celebrity here (unless there's an event), the impersonators will surely amuse you. Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the main attractions here. You'll see the names of celebrities in a star inlaid on the sidewalk of the street. On the forecourt of the TCL Chinese Theatre, you'll find the signature, hand and footprints of the biggest names in Hollywood. The Hollywood Sign is visible when you go up to the Hollywood & Highland Shopping Center. 8 Things NOT to Do in Los Angeles

03:54
Get more Tips here! www.destinationtips.com #1 Don't Book a Flight to LAX Avoid the crowds at LAX by flying instead to Burbank's Bob Hope Airport. It's far easier to navigate and is less crowded and has a direct rail connection to downtown Los Angeles. #2 Don't get stuck in a queue at Pink's Unless you enjoy tediously long waits and mediocre grub, be like those in the know and track down the nearest food trucks on Twitter. #3 Don't Jaywalk The city is notorious for its jaywalking tickets, and even celebs aren’t impervious to it. Just follow the crosswalk signals and be vigilant. #4 Don't take a Hollywood star home tour Unless you're into well manicured lawns or tall gates, a lot of celebrities don’t even live in Hollywood or Beverly Hills. You're more likely to see a celeb in one of the locally owned restaurants or independent shops. #5 Don't walk to the Hollywood Sign Even after you've made the climb, you won't get within 20 feet of the sign because of security and preservation measures. Instead: See it from further away. One of the best spots to view the sign can be found along Beachwood Canyon Drive. #6 Don't go to the sunset strip during the day During the day, the Sunset Strip is just another line of cafes and shops. It’s after the "sun sets" that it comes alive! #7 Don't bother with Venice Beach Boardwalk Yes it's known mostly for its interesting inhabitants who stroll the boardwalk along Ocean Front Walk but it's also usually very crowded, especially on weekends, where you’ll have to move with the speed of the crowd in order to walk down the Venice Beach Boardwalk. #8 Don't go to Hollywood and Highland" It's like the times square of L.A., and therefore a huge tourist trap! Everyone will try to sell you something on the street, and even Spiderman will ask for money to take a photo with him.

We highly recommend spending some time in the lesser known places in Cali to really get a full idea of the kinds of adventures you can create, but also you have to see the iconic touristy stuff like the Hollywood sign, Santa Monica blvd, and hit the big National Parks like Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon. Driving Mulholland Scenic Parkway & Stopping At Overlooks

14:52
Mulholland Drive is a street and road in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains of Southern California. It is named after pioneering Los Angeles civil engineer William Mulholland. The western rural portion in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties is named Mulholland Highway. The road is featured in innumerable movies, songs, and novels. David Lynch, whose film Mulholland Drive is suffused with the atmosphere of the road, once said that one can feel "the history of Hollywood" on it. The 21-mile long mostly two-lane, minor arterial road loosely follows the ridgeline of the eastern Santa Monica Mountains and the Hollywood Hills, connecting two sections of U.S. Route 101, and crossing Sepulveda Boulevard, Beverly Glen Boulevard, Coldwater Canyon, Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Nichols Canyon Road, and Outpost Drive. The road offers spectacular view of the Los Angeles Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and the Hollywood Sign. Mulholland Drive is home to some of the most exclusive and most expensive homes in the world. Many of these homes are set back from the road and offer outstanding views of downtown Los Angeles. Celebrities such as Jack Nicholson, Sylvester Stallone, Justin Timberlake, Eric Stoltz, Jessica Biel, Paris Hilton and Reese Witherspoon all live nearby.

LA Neighborhoods: Episode 1 - Hollywood

LA Neighborhoods: Hollywood - In the first video of this series I wanted to show you the things to see in Hollywood. When people visit LA, almost everyone comes to Hollywood Blvd. It’s a must-see location full of endless entertainment and tourism chaos. But it’s also my home. I live in Hollywood. I wanted my first video to be about where I live. Therefore, this video is going to be a little bit different than the rest. I know Hollywood pretty well. So I show you around in a (I think) pretty comprehensive way. My future videos probably won’t be so structured simply because I don’t the other neighborhoods as well. Let me know what you thought. I’m still figuring out the style and direction I want to go in for this series. Please subscribe if you liked this video and want to see more like it in the future. Visiting Basildon

02:33
Basildon is the largest town in the borough of Basildon, which is in Essex with a population of over 100,000 people. Just over 30 miles from London, it is a popular commuter town, and is close to the southeast coast too making it a perfect spot to live. Commercial businesses also thrive in Basildon; check out some of them at http://www.abbotts.co.uk/forsaleoffice/basildon/507/ Mentioned in the Domesday Book as Belesduna, the name is thought to be derived from Anglo-Saxon. One of its notable sites these days is its mini Hollywood-esque sign that spells out the town's name.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT VISITING LOS ANGELES!

14:34
All of LA in 48 hours vlog!!! I spent 2 days with my uncle Adnan Mamu who has a place in LA. He took me around LA and showed me all the tourist locations throughout LA. We first visited the Hollywood sign, then went to the Griffith Park Observatory, then the Hollywood walk of fame, then to the Beverly Hills sign, then to Rodeo drive, and then we took a train to downtown Los Angeles. To finish off a great night we ate Korean BBQ and it was my first time having it! I really enjoyed it. The next day which started in the late afternoon we went to Randy's Donuts where Iron Man 2 was filmed, Marina Del Rey, Venice, and Santa Monica Pier. My main goal for this vlog was to show you that you can Los Angeles in less than 48 hours and view the whole city. Los Angeles is beautiful and I do recommend you visiting it if you haven't. Lastly a huge shoutout to my uncle for taking me around and spending time with me, I appreciate it! Thanks for watching! Sarajane Schwartz: Shutdown Beachwood Sign Access Now

13:25
40 year resident and determined local activist Sarajane Schwartz explains why she feels Hollywood Sign tourism is both dangerous and illegal in Beachwood Canyon. According to Sarajane, tourism has only become a problem in recent years. Before the advent of GPS technology, few tourists knew how to get to the Hollywood Sign and Beachwood Canyon was a quiet residential enclave much like any other in the Hollywood Hills. As a result, Sarajane says, Beachwood Canyon is not built to handle the high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic created by sign seeking tourists. The neighborhood has a confusing network of narrow, winding streets. It is also surrounded on three sides by "combustible parkland" making it a “very high fire hazard zone”. This lack of infrastructure and high risk of fire combine to make many residents like Sarajane worry that congestion created by tourist traffic will prevent emergency vehicles from reaching residents’ homes in the event of a major fire. Sarajane also reports that tourists frequently disregard Beachwood Canyon's strict no smoking laws, increasing the danger of fire even further. In order to address these public safety concerns, Sarajane advocates that all access to the Hollywood Sign through Beachwood Canyon be shut down immediately. However, she also offers solutions that she feels will preserve access to the sign for tourists and hikers. These solutions include alternative access to the same hiking trails from Bronson Canyon. Sarajane goes on to argue that, even if people disagree over whether tourism below the sign is dangerous, the Beachwood Drive trailhead leading into Griffith Park is still illegal and should be closed—as it was installed by former Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom Labonge “without any notification, any public hearing, [or] any process”. Sarajane closes the interview by talking about her experience organizing to help elect current Los Angeles City Councilmember David Ryu. She expresses some disappointment in his record to date. 360 VR Hollywood Hills Homes:See Beachwood Drive Houses & Mansions For Sale in Hollywoodland Canyon

05:01
Take a drive through the Hollywood hills in 360 up Beachwood drive Listen the horses are stamping in the stalls the sea breeze kisses the hilltops while the birds weave melodies of happiness on the open trail Your day begins in Hollywoodland, California -excerpt from a Hollywoodland publicity brochure. Of all the various neighborhoods and boroughs of Los Angeles, Hollywoodland is probably its most unique and architecturally intriguing. The vision of developer, S.H. Woodruff, and L. A. Times publisher, Harry Chandler, to create a quiet hillside enclave of European style castles and estates perched high above Hollywood was realized in 1926 as Hollywoodland, a perfect name for a place where reality is suspended, as in film. Hollywoodland is a dream-like town whose residents revere the imaginative and dramatic and the homes here are nothing if not theatrical. Of all the various neighborhoods and boroughs of Los Angeles, Hollywoodland is probably the most unique and architecturally intriguing. Originally architectural styles were restricted to French Normandy, Tudor English, Mediterranean and Spanish. With possibly more turrets per square mile than even Lichtenstein, Hollywoodland also boasts many walled and gated estates with mini moats. European stone masons were brought in to construct the stone walls, clock tower and connecting stairways with granite rock quarried from the nearby hills. With names like Castillo Del Lago and Wolf’s Lair, you half expect to see royalty. During the 1920s and 30s Hollywoodland became the home or hideaway of some of Hollywood’s most famous and infamous royalty. Really, the community was perfect for anyone attempting to guard their privacy through walled and gated mansions and a maze of winding streets. This was especially useful during prohibition. One home on Woodhaven still has the fake bookshelves which conceal a secret storage space where no doubt a case of your favorite hooch could be stored. Some of these fairy tale like properties include the Rodgerton estate, where Humphrey Bogart lived for two years, a castle complete with bell towers on Mulholland.and Durand where Bugsy Siegel ran a speakeasy and gambling casino until it was shut down by the Feds, and even a French Normandy estate on Beachwood with a 12 ft. high painted crest of a knight holding a sword and shield. Hollywoodland continues to be home to many celebrities and anyone else who enjoys the serenity of the hills, the lakeside views and trails, and the varied architectural landscape of Modern and Mediterranean. In later years many post-modern designs were built. Some boldly on stilts and even a geodesic dome that was later dismantled due to excessive heat and water condensation that dripped on the furniture. It is quite fortunate that the neighborhood was developed in the 20s when there were no bulldozers or it might have resembled a housing tract in the Valley rather than the cozy, scenic. wooded canyon where wildlife still flourishes. A homeowner could build any size home he desired. What mattered was aesthetics, not economics. As the brochure stated, one does not need to have great wealth to enjoy this wonderful environment, scenic beauty and wholesome surroundings. Peaceful and quiet, the neighborhood still lives up to the original brochure’s claim, but of course the glitz of Hollywood nightlife in never far away. Los Angeles, California Hot Spots

01:57
We decided to take a spontaneous trip to Los Angeles, California and hit up a few spots. We took in the city view at Mulholland Drive (scenic overlook), drove through Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills, visited the famous Hollywood sign, soaked up rays at Venice Beach and Santa Monica beach boardwalk and pier, walked the Hollywood Walk of Fame, visited the Urban lights at LACMA, explored the Grove w/my cousin Jennifer, and did a lot of people watching. We stayed at The Moment Hotel which has a very urban-modern atmosphere to it, and the rooms are awesome as well as the service. It was such a chill time and we’d love to visit L.A. again! 13 Disney Park Secrets

08:01
Family's from all over visit Disney, but do they know Disney has many hidden secrets? These are 13 shocking Disney park Secrets. Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 7 - Animal Kingdom – At one point the famous Animal Kingdom was supposed to include a separate attraction within the attraction called “Beastly Kingdom.” This would be dedicated to mythical creatures and probably include some animatronics. Even though that idea never made its way to fruition there is a subtle nod to the project on the sign for Animal Kingdom. In the middle of a rhino and elephant you can see the silhouette of a dragon. We met you’ve never noticed THAT before! 6 - Smellitizers – If you’ve ever visited a Disney park and noticed a certain smell in a certain place, well that’s no accident. Smellitizers are devices that can be found in the tunnels below the parks and are located throughout Disney parks to emit certain smells in certain areas. Some of the most obvious smells are the smell of fresh baked cookies and vanilla on Main Street, fresh citrus on the Soarin’ ride, and a salty smell on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Some of the less obvious, but definitely noteworthy smells are the smell of honey on Pooh’s adventures and burning wood on Spaceship Earth. 5 - Cinderella's castle – Cinderella’s castle may be the most well-known landmark in all of Disney parks. Everyone knows what it looks like and everyone knows where it’s located. What not many people know is that hidden inside the castle is a private guest suite, reserved for contest winners only. You cannot book this suite and it is given to families for use about once every two weeks. The suite has only been used approximately 600 times. Not only do you get a car to drop you at the Magic Kingdom, but you also get a personal guide to accompany you around the park acting as a personal FASTpass for rides and giving you all the information about the park you could ever want. Inside the suite are Disney character relics, such as Cinderella’s glass slipper and Captain Hook’s telescope, as well as a television disguised as a mirror that you use a magic wand to turn on. 4 - The Grey Stuff – A line from the song “Be Our Guest” in the movie Beauty and the Beast has the Lumiere sing “Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious – don’t believe us, ask the dishes!” Now you can try the grey stuff too! When dining at the Be Our Guest restaurant at Disney World, you can order the grey stuff, which is some sort of cookies and cream grey mousse. Originally not located on the menu, it’s now a featured dessert and you should really do yourself a favor and try it, because Lumiere was not lying – it is delicious! 3 - Tom Sawyer Island – This ride, located at Disney World, is a boat ride that takes you over to an island with a Tom Sawyer theme. It’s a very quiet, some would say boring ride. Boring, until you realize that you could walk away with a pretty awesome prize. The island supposedly has paintbrushes hidden all over the place, to recreate Tom Sawyers chore to whitewash his Aunt Polly’s fence. If you’re lucky enough to find a paintbrush, bring it over to your boat driver and they’ll reward you with a fastpass to any one ride in the park. Don’t go crazy looking for all the brushes, though. It’s only good for one brush per family. 2 - Club 33 – Club 33 is one of the cooler secrets within Disneyland. It’s located in the middle of New Orleans Square and is recognized only by a plate attached to the building that says “33.” To be allowed entry into the club, you must be a member, and to become a member you need to get on a waitlist that is estimated to be years long and it’s roughly $25,000 to join plus $10,000 in yearly dues. Some of the perks to the club, is –obviously, access to the club itself – alcoholic beverages, since the park is for the most park dry except for certain areas, early park admission, valet parking at the resorts and access to private events held at the park. 1 - Walt’s Apartment – When Walt Disney was designing and constructing Disneyland he wanted to build a special apartment hidden from the chaos of the park, but still within the park. He built the apartment above the Main Street Firehouse. The Disney family would spend time in the apartment, entertaining guests or Walt would do quiet work – his desk was set up against a window overlooking Main Street. A lamp in the window would be left on when Walt was present in the apartment which was a fun thing for guests to see. Since his passing, the light is always burning in the window as a tribute.

Driving Downtown - Broadway 4K - Los Angeles USA

10:03
Driving Downtown Streets - Broadway - Los Angeles California USA - Episode 77. Starting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/fMKfCSz4x2B2 . Broadway is a major thoroughfare in downtown Los Angeles. The Broadway Theater District is the first and largest historic theater and cinema district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Commercial and Theater District For more than 50 years, Broadway was the main commercial street of Los Angeles, and one of its premier theater and movie palace districts as well. Along the street are a dozen historic theaters known as the Broadway Theater District—the largest surviving collection of pre-WWII movie palaces in the United States, including the 1918 Million Dollar Theater, the first Los Angeles movie palace, the 1931 Los Angeles Theatre and the 1926 Orpheum Theatre. Los Angeles California Los Angeles, officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-most populous city (over 18 million) in the United States (after New York City), the most populous city in California. Situated in Southern California, Los Angeles is known for its Mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, sprawling metropolis, and as a major center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles lies in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet. Nicknamed the "City of Angels", Los Angeles is a global city with a diverse economy in entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, sports, technology, education, medicine and research. The city is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States. The area economy is the third-largest in the world, after the Greater Tokyo and New York metropolitan areas. Los Angeles includes Hollywood and leads the world in the creation of television productions and recorded music; it is also one of the leaders in motion picture production. L.A. hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984 and is bidding to host the 2024 Summer Olympics and thus become the second city to have hosted the Games three times (after London). Economy The economy of Los Angeles is driven by international trade, entertainment (television, motion pictures, video games, music recording, and production), aerospace, technology, petroleum, fashion, apparel, and tourism. Other significant industries include finance, telecommunications, law, healthcare, and transportation. Three of the six major film studios—Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Universal Pictures—are located within the city limits. Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center in the western United States. Race and Ethnicity Los Angeles is home to people from more than 140 countries speaking 224 different identified languages. Ethnic enclaves like Chinatown, Historic Filipinotown, Koreatown, Little Armenia, Little Ethiopia, Tehrangeles, Little Tokyo, Little Bangladesh and Thai Town provide examples of the polyglot character of Los Angeles. Culture Los Angeles is often billed as the "Creative Capital of the World", because one in every six of its residents works in a creative industry and there are more artists, writers, filmmakers, actors, dancers and musicians living and working in Los Angeles than any other city at any time in history. Movies and the Performing Arts The city's Hollywood neighborhood has become recognized as the center of the motion picture industry. Los Angeles plays host to the annual Academy Awards and is the site of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, the oldest film school in the United States. Sports The city of Los Angeles and its metropolitan area is the home of nine major league professional sports teams. These teams include the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Major League Baseball (MLB), the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL), the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS), and the Los Angeles Sparks. Landmarks Important landmarks in Los Angeles include the Hollywood Sign, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Capitol Records Building, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Angels Flight, TCL Chinese Theatre, Dolby Theatre, Griffith Observatory, Getty Center, Getty Villa, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Venice Canal Historic District and boardwalk, Theme Building, Bradbury Building, U.S. Bank Tower, Wilshire Grand Tower, Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles City Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Battleship USS Iowa, Watts Towers, Staples Center, Dodger Stadium, and Olvera Street. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadway_(Los_Angeles) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles

California's Gold with Huell Howser: Lummis House [LOST EPISODE]

28:01
https://www.kcet.org/shows/californias-gold-with-huell-howser/episodes/lummis-house Working in partnership with Chapman University, which owns the rights to the Huell Howser Archive since the time of Howser’s death in 2013, KCET edited together the new episode from Chapman’s archival footage. The undiscovered episode follows the much-adored Howser on a guided tour through “El Alisal,” built from 1896-1910 entirely by the hands of Lummis using stones and granite boulders gathered from the Arroyo, as well as concrete and wood. The home is now a museum listed with the National Register of Historical Places in northeast Los Angeles and operated by the City of Los Angeles’ Recreation and Parks Department. Shot in the series’ traditional informal interview style with a single, hand-held microphone and one cameraman, Howser explores the history of the home and examines its artifacts including Spanish folk songs that have been preserved in wax cylinders followed by a recreation of the wax cylinder recording process with modern musicians.
