Shared history
Film about Shared History Project in Gdańsk organised by The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre in Gdańsk. SHARED HISTORY is a project developed jointly by the Baltic Sea Culture Centre in Gdańsk, LCCA (Latvian Modern Art Centre) from Riga and Fargfabriken from Stockholm. It is based on the concept of history as a combination of individual experiences that together create a portrait of the multinational and multicultural country. In the Polish edition of the project we look at Gdańsk from a historical perspective as a city to which “everyone brought the best things they had” – to quote the title of a book by Mieczysław Abramowicz. The film shows events and activities in Gdańsk which were created during this project: 1. Exhibition in St. John’s Centre in Gdańsk – Shared History (20.04-3.06.2018) Exhibition was presenting multimedia works of a tandem of artists working in Gdańsk: Agnieszka Wołodźko, a Tricity visual artist, and Ibrahim Mouhanna, a Syrian director. The site-specific works refer to the idea of tolerance for other religions and nationalities and ecumenism in its broadest sense. 2. Debate. Gdańsk. New opening (22.05.2018) Topics • Gdańsk identity: past and present • New citizens – new potential • Spaces for the dialogue Participants: • Basil Kerski • Anna Kwaśnik • ks. EUSBSR 4th Annual Forum - Cooperation for a Healthier Baltic Sea Region Environment
Cooperation for a Healthier Baltic Sea Region Environment was one of ten workshops that took place at the 4th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (11 -- 12 November 2013 Vilnius, Lithuania). The workshop was organised by the Baltic Sea Region Programme and demonstrated achievements of transnational cooperation programmes and projects in the field of environment, and gave orientation for potential project partners about funding sources available in the near future in the Baltic Sea region for projects that tackle environmental issues. Successful cooperation needs time, funding and good examples. At the workshop we learned about selected projects from the region. We also compared the available funding sources and their requirements. 14point3 - THE FILM
Welcome to 14point3 - THE FILM - the full version of a short film about a project called "14.3" - a flagship project of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The project aimed to develop scenarios on what disasters can happen in the Baltic Sea region, and to check how well are we prepared to meet them. HERE IS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE FILM FROM THE AUTHORS: 14point3 -- THE FILM tells a story of the Baltic Sea region. How can one very specific project (that of cooperation in civil protection) tell a story of the whole region? It can because it gives you an example of one of many steps that need to be taken, in order to have a strong and united macro-region. During the project that was going on for 18 months we have learned that one fundamental task in achieving this goal is to build up macro-regional thinking. Through working together, through meeting, through overstepping cross- cultural, -institutional and -sectorial boundaries we can ensure the success of ongoing civil protection cooperation in the Baltic Sea region and beyond. 14point3 -- THE FILM gives you a live testimonial of our journey toward this goal. There were three videos conceived as a part of the 14.3 project. One of them -- 14point3 -- THE FILM is the full version in which we visualized the scenarios that the project developed and made them into creative images. The second part of the full version then in turn tells you about the project that was so much more than developing these scenarios. It was about cooperation, about creating a macro-regional head and thinking. The two parts can also be used separately -- as a teaser (only creative parts), and/or as a story of how the project was organized. They both as single items are provided to you in the video package as well. The last -- BONUS clip -- gives you the music clip for the tune that was created for the 14.3 video. We commissioned the music with a young music composer for we thought that this would also reflect the pioneering effort that the project had in the context of civil protection activities not only on the macro-regional, but also in the EU context. Our choice also symbolizes that in this hybrid world where a civil protection project can become a commissioner of music art that will in turn bring the importance of the civil protection work more visible and audible, it can also hope to achieve its most important aims to make sure the highest quality of their work -- it can develop cross-sectorial, cross-border and cross-institutional cooperation that successfully works on operational level. Dirk Ahner, DG Regio, on the Baltic Sea Region Strategy
The Baltic Sea Region Strategy is a new challenge, and we must be prepared to learn from the good and bad sides of our experience so far, says Dirk Ahner, Director-General of the European Commission's DG Regio and one of the founding fathers of the macro-region strategies. The most important right now, he says in this BDF video, is to keep up the commitment which was there when the strategy was created -- "even in the time of crisis" -- and to transform it into action. "Commitment is good, but commitment is on paper", Ahner says.

Thieme: "Global Investment Strategies - A view from Wall Street" speech at UAS Stralsund
At the Baltic Sea Forum 2012 at the UAS Stralsund Heiko Thieme, founder and chairman of the American Heritage Management Corp., New York, held the speech "“Global Investment Strategies - A view from Wall Street“" under the aspect of experiencing the financial crisis. The 18th annual baltic Sea Forum was organized by us students in a time frame of one year. Thieme is the kind of person which magically fills the rooms above their capacity, because we doesn't keep economics down to uninteresting figures, but he knows how things work and knows how to explain it best.

Why Is The U.S. In Baltic Sea? Is Putin Planning to Invade European NATO Nations? A MUST HEAR!
World War 3! Did you know Russia practiced and rehearsed an invasion on Europe and NATO nations? Well, thank God for Open Your Eyes People because you'd probably never know! Russian forces rehearsed the invasion of Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark during a military exercise involving 33,000 troops, according to a new study of Baltic security. The manoeuvres, which took place in March, assumed that a Western-backed uprising against President Vladimir Putin was taking place in Moscow. Under the scenario posited by the exercise, Russia responded by launching a simulated assault on four regional neighbours. Some troops practised attacking Norway with the aim of seizing an area in the north of the country. Other Russian forces rehearsed the capture of the Aland islands from Finland. More units drilled how to seize Gotland island from Sweden and Bornholm island from Denmark. These Baltic territories lie across vital shipping lanes, making them key military objectives. The capture of these islands would allow Russia to seal off the Baltic and isolate Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. “If carried out successfully, control of those territories would make it all but impossible for Nato allies to reinforce the Baltic states,” wrote Edward Lucas, the senior vice-president of the Centre for European Policy Analysis and the author of the report. ****** SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT! ****** Oh my friends, the Lord Jesus Christ has an Urgent Exhortation for the body of Christ in these last days. On foot across the Baltic Sea - Karlskrona
The Polish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce created two 10-minute movies within the project "Interface" in order to promote a trip across the Baltic Sea without a car. Both films are dedicated to the sister cities of Gdynia and Karlskrona. There have been a lot of changes in both cities, thanks to which travelling across the Baltic without a car has become convenient and attractive. In Gdynia there operates a special shuttle bus line no 570, which is the fastest way to reach the ferry terminal from the city center and back. In both cities tourism information is available in several languages. Apart from all the facilities waiting for the non-motorized, the a/m films feature other attractions for such tourists, e.g. Swedish skerries, picturesque Karlskrona and modern Gdynia. The movies characters, Monika and Ewelina, are accompanied by an animated seal. The "Interface" project is to revitalize cross-border passenger transportation, creating a comfortable, cheap and environmentally friendly alternative for travelling in the South Baltic area. www.interfaceproject.eu

It is a cheaper alternative to the Tor missile system and Pantsir-S1 and designed to work in passive mode with the help of different imaging systems (thermal camera, TV camera) and a laser rangefinder in order to find and engage a target. Sosna-R is able to operate effectively under the control of various types of old, modern and prospective battery command posts, the most preferable of which is the FPU "Assembly-M1-2" (9S80M1-2) and is resistant to jamming. It uses a tracked SAM launcher with 12 missiles of 10 km range and altitude of 10 km, based on the MT-LB vehicle. The Sosna can also deliver fire while on the move. The system has a crew of two: the driver and gunner. The system is armed with 12 9M340 missiles that are held in their transport-launch containers and arranged in two banks of six. Sosna-R hyper-velocity beam rider 38 kg missiles are two-stage, capable of destroying aircraft, helicopters, missiles, cruise missiles, aerial bombs, small-sized air attack weapons including elements of high-precision weapons and light armored vehicles. The missile can change direction mid-flight. It also has a combined Impact/proximity laser fuse. Based on Osa-Tunguska, Pantsir - Hermes missiles further development, two stages (or one boost stage for shorter interceptions). Buk-M3 also nicknamed Viking, medium-range surface-to-air missile system is a modernized version of the Buk-M2 system, features advanced electronic components and a deadly new missile and could be regarded as a completely new system. The system is designed, developed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company Almaz-Antey. The Buk-M3 system boasts a new digital computer, high-speed data exchange system and a tele-thermal imaging target designator instead of the tele-optical trackers used in previous models. A battery of Buk-M3 missiles can track and engage up to 36 targets simultaneously, while its advanced 9R31M missile is capable of knocking down all existing flying objects, including highly maneuverable ones, even during active electronic jamming. The Buk-M3 can also engage sea and land targets, due to its vertical launch capability. According some Russian newspaper website, the Buk-M3 would be made operational before the end of 2015. In December 2015, the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has announced that Russian Armed forces will receive in 2016 the first set of the newest medium-range air defense missile system Buk-M3.

QUESTIONS 1/2 - „Going Green and Showing It" [EN]
Going Green and Showing It was one of ten workshops that took place at the 4th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (11 November 2013 Vilnius, Lithuania.) Realise and enjoy how many possibilities there are to get added value from a successful project within the Strategy. It is not all about networking. It is about giving flesh and blood to the initial idea. It is to develop the first commitment among people and organisations you did not know before. You can make this transnational and at the same time anchor it in the national environment. It can be linked to peoples' ordinary life. The results can and will act as a stable platform for future visions. This is possible, but you need to communicate it! We show how you can do it and we hope you will help us doing it even better. As the basis we will use one of the successful flagship projects within Strategy. Join us - learn and share your ideas and experiences! Security Challenges in the Baltic Region: A View from Latvia
Since the end of the Cold War, the Baltic States of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have made tremendous political, economic, and military strides. Consciously deciding to align themselves with the West, all three joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) security alliance in 2004. Although small in size and population, the Baltic States have become beacons of hope in an increasingly insecure corner of Europe. Globally, they have also contributed to military and peacekeeping operations in places like Iraq, the Balkans, the Horn of Africa, and Afghanistan. As the security picture in the Baltic region continues to evolve, how does the legacy of the Cold War impact today's security challenges in the region? What new security threats are emerging for countries like Latvia? How are the Baltics working with each other, the United States, and their NATO allies to address regional security challenges?
