Contemporary Logo Design Illustrator Tutorial | Satori Graphics

08:21
Tom with Satori Graphics back with another graphic design Illustrator tutorial; today we will embark on a contemporary logo design in Adobe Illustrator, and I have to say that this tutorial is slightly more advanced than your average logo design Illustrator tutorial. There are elements within this logo design that require some experience with specific Illustrator tools and knowledge of how the software works. That being said, if you spend long enough listening to my method and instructions with this contemporary logo design tutorial, I am sure you will be able to pick it up eventually, despite what skill or experience level you may have with Adobe Illustrator. You should know that logo design needs to be a vector file to retain quality at any scale, and this that is why I always use Illustrator for my logo designing. There is no reason why anybody should design a logo in Photoshop for example, apart from the fact that they don’t know how to use Illustrator, and that is where tutorials such as this come into play. So I hope you can utilise this Illustrator tutorial and come away with a few things learned :) I am a professional graphic designer and furthermore logo designer, you can check out m portfolio of work over at www.satorigraphics.net to see some of the many logo design and graphic design projects I have worked on over the past decade. Brilliant Retro-Style Illustrations By British Artist That Depicts What's Wrong In Our Modern World

15:18
Let’s face it, we are living in a digital age which in the long run has proved to be negative and there is no absolute turning back. Our society has its numerous flaws, heavy taxation, and over-dependence in technology, obesity among others. While some people may bury their heads deep in the sand about the social issues, illustrator John Holcroft chooses to address the problems head-on with his satirical artwork With a classical style based on the 50’s advertisement, the vintage setting comes out clearly. Coupled with a great sense of satire, the result is a masterpiece that depicts today’s modern behavior in such a brutally honest way. That’s what makes the work of the British illustrator so special. How did it helped you and how old were you when you went studying art? Did you quit your job immediately? Tsuchimochi studied Japanese painting in Tama Art University, and cites ukiyo-e painter Hiroshige as one of his favourite artists. He decided to recreate one of Hiroshige's most notable works, the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, to the modern day using his own contemporary illustration style. After three years working on finding and drawing the locations, he completed his book "100 views of Tokyo". Together we will visit some of the locations Tsuchimochi used in his illustrations, which are centered around Shitamachi, the area that was once the center of Edo. We will then head towards Jimbocho, famous for its old book and record shops, to Saboru, a cafe held for more than 60 years by the same owner, which truly depicts the charm of the area. Our next stop will be Yamada Shoten, a ukiyo-e shop where Tsuchimochi enjoys spending time and looking at paintings. He will tell us more about his vision of ukiyo-e and how he expresses it in his work. ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ TOCO TOCO's previous episode: KASHIWA Daisuke, Musician https://youtu.be/s9chK6SR-Ew TOCO TOCO's next episode: UME, Mangaka Unit https://youtu.be/XWp4EjZtxdw Shinji Tsuchimochi ON BEHANCE https://www.behance.net/shinjitsuchimochi Shinji Tsuchimochi ON FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/wabisabipop 100 Views of Tokyo (shipping worldwide) http://shop.spoon-tamago.com/products/100-views-of-tokyo

Why is Modern Art so Bad?

05:50
For two millennia, great artists set the standard for beauty. Now those standards are gone. Modern art is a competition between the ugly and the twisted; the most shocking wins. What happened? How did the beautiful come to be reviled and bad taste come to be celebrated? Renowned artist Robert Florczak explains the history and the mystery behind this change and how it can be stopped and even reversed. For a score of centuries, artists enriched Western society with their works of astonishing beauty. "The Night Watch"... "The Thinker"... "The Rocky Mountains." Master after master, from Leonardo, to Rembrandt, to Bierstadt, produced works that inspired, uplifted, and deepened us. And they did this by demanding of themselves the highest standards of excellence, improving upon the work of each previous generation of masters, and continuing to aspire to the highest quality attainable. But something happened on the way to the 20th Century. The profound, the inspiring and the beautiful were replaced by the new, the different, and the ugly. Today the silly, the pointless, and the purely offensive are held up as the best of modern art. Michelangelo carved his "David" out of a rock. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art just offers us a rock, -- a rock -- all 340 tons of it. That's how far standards have fallen. How did this happen? How did the thousand-year ascent towards artistic perfection and excellence die out? It didn't. It was pushed out. Beginning in the late 19th century, a group dubbed The Impressionists rebelled against the French Academie des Beaux Arts and its demand for classical standards. Whatever their intentions, the new modernists sowed the seeds of aesthetic relativism -- the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" mentality. Today everybody loves the Impressionists. And, as with most revolutions, the first generation or so produced work of genuine merit. Monet, Renoir, and Degas still maintained elements of disciplined design and execution, but with each new generation standards declined until there were no standards. All that was left was personal expression. The great art historian Jacob Rosenberg wrote that quality in art "is not merely a matter of personal opinion but to a high degree . . . objectively traceable." But the idea of a universal standard of quality in art is now usually met with strong resistance if not open ridicule. "How can art be objectively measured?" I'm challenged. In responding, I simply point to the artistic results produced by universal standards compared to what is produced by relativism. The former gave the world "The Birth of Venus" and "The Dying Gaul," while the latter has given us "The Holy Virgin Mary," fashioned with cow dung and pornographic images, and "Petra," the prize-winning sculpture of a policewoman squatting and urinating -- complete with a puddle of synthetic urine. Without aesthetic standards we have no way to determine quality or inferiority. Here's a test I give my graduate students, all talented and well educated. Please analyze this Jackson Pollock painting and explain why it is good. It is only after they give very eloquent answers that I inform them that the painting is actually a close up of my studio apron. I don't blame them; I would probably have done the same since it's nearly impossible to differentiate between the two. Norman Rockwell Documentary

01:27:13
Norman Perceval Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was a 20th-century American author, painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States for its reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over nearly five decades.[1] Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter, The Problem We All Live With, Saying Grace, and the Four Freedoms series. He also is noted for his 64-year relationship with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), during which he produced covers for their publication Boys' Life, calendars, and other illustrations. These works include popular images that reflect the Scout Oath and Scout Law such as The Scoutmaster, A Scout is Reverent[2] and A Guiding Hand,[3] among many others. Norman Rockwell was a prolific artist, producing more than 4,000 original works in his lifetime. Most of his works are either in public collections, or have been destroyed in fire or other misfortunes. Rockwell also was commissioned to illustrate more than 40 books, including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as well as painting the portraits for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as those of foreign figures, including Gamal Abdel Nasser and Jawaharlal Nehru. His portrait subjects included Judy Garland. One of his last portraits was of Colonel Sanders in 1973. His annual contributions for the Boy Scouts calendars between 1925 and 1976 (Rockwell was a 1939 recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America[4]), were only slightly overshadowed by his most popular of calendar works: the "Four Seasons" illustrations for Brown & Bigelow that were published for 17 years beginning in 1947 and reproduced in various styles and sizes since 1964. He painted six images for Coca-Cola advertising.[5] Illustrations for booklets, catalogs, posters (particularly movie promotions), sheet music, stamps, playing cards, and murals (including "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "God Bless the Hills", which was completed in 1936 for the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey) rounded out Rockwell's œuvre as an illustrator. Rockwell's work was dismissed by serious art critics in his lifetime.[6] Many of his works appear overly sweet in the opinion of modern critics,[7] especially the Saturday Evening Post covers, which tend toward idealistic or sentimentalized portrayals of American life. This has led to the often-deprecatory adjective, "Rockwellesque". Consequently, Rockwell is not considered a "serious painter" by some contemporary artists, who regard his work as bourgeois and kitsch. Writer Vladimir Nabokov sneered that Rockwell's brilliant technique was put to "banal" use, and wrote in his book Pnin: "That Dalí is really Norman Rockwell's twin brother kidnapped by Gypsies in babyhood". He is called an "illustrator" instead of an artist by some critics, a designation he did not mind, as that was what he called himself.[8] In his later years, however, Rockwell began receiving more attention as a painter when he chose more serious subjects such as the series on racism for Look magazine.[9] One example of this more serious work is The Problem We All Live With, which dealt with the issue of school racial integration. The painting depicts a young black girl, Ruby Bridges, flanked by white federal marshals, walking to school past a wall defaced by racist graffiti.[10] This painting was displayed in the White House when Bridges met with President Obama in 201

A Brand-New Painting by Urban Contemporary Artist THH70 -- "Blunt Force Drama"

02:21
A brand-new promotional video detailing some of the process of creating a new 18 x 18" canvas entitled "Blunt Force Drama" by Urban Contemporary artist THH70. For pricing & availability, please contact [email protected] or visit www.thh70online.com Bio THH70 was born in human form in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, but the persona of his nom de plume was conceived in 1994 as a stage name for his other career as a recording artist. He is now an accomplished visual artist, with his works in private and corporate collections on every continent. Since 2000, he has sold over 1300 original mixed media pieces, and his website—www.thh70online.com—continues to receive thousands of hits per month. To date, THH70 has shown in solo and group shows in galleries and museums across the United States and the Caribbean, and has appeared in print and online publications worldwide. THH70 is recognized for his unique artistic approach that he has branded Lo-Fi Urban Contemporary, combining crude painterly techniques and utilizing materials and media (that include everything from acrylics and spray paint to household products like Windex and X-14 mildew remover) with his own style of raw illustration and stream-of-consciousness linguistics. In 2001, sensing the online absence of a hub for like-minded artists to collectively exhibit their work, THH70 created AOA: Alternative Online Artists, an online, juried collective of approximately 30 artists. Since being founded, AOA has selected and maintained a roster of the nations most diverse and prolific alternative artists (with styles encompassing Pop, Outsider, Graffiti, Fluxus, Dada, Contemporary, Modern, Lowbrow, Urban, Abstract, Graphic Design, and Folk). The waves made by AOA artists continue to crash upon the art world, almost a decade later. In late 2005, THH70 was interviewed (and appeared in) Americas Chemical Angels, a documentary by filmmaker Oxana Chumak about the overmedication of children with ADD/ADHD. In addition to the interview footage, THH70s seminal 2002 painting RITALIN® is featured prominently in the film, as well as in its promotional advertising. 2007: gallery hiatus. 2008: a busy year with multiple shows and appearances, showing of work alongside some of Contemporary Arts finest. Also in 2008: the release of THH70s self-published monograph THH70: an exploration of text, imagery, and other crazy shit , this a 94-page full-color book containing a selection of more than 100 paintings spanning the previous 3 years. In 08, THH70 also became a contributing editor to Mad Skills Magazine, an online arts & culture magazine in Europe. 2009 saw THH70s participation in an Obama-themed art exhibit in the Dominican Republic, where our hero was the only artist to be specially commissioned for his work in this show containing scores of works by internationally-renowned artists. In September 2009, five THH70 paintings were exhibited in a museum retrospective at The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, which runs thru January 2010 and has already received massive critical acclaim. Nick Knight and SHOWstudio have long championed fashion illustration. This exhibition surveys SHOWstudio’s 17-year archive, showcasing examples of illustration that challenge conventional understandings of the medium. Animations, film and footage from live broadcasts are displayed alongside original artworks by a selection of SHOWstudio’s community of over fifty artists. Each season, to time with the international fashion weeks, SHOWstudio commissions different artists to cover the key looks at the shows in their own signature style. Additionally, many online projects feature examples of illustration or animation, and on occasion designers themselves have showcased their talent for drawing, taking up paints and pencils within the studio on camera.

Punch Magazine (1962)

02:37
London. Long shot of a round table filled with people. This is "the world's most unusual editorial conference - the famous Punch table to which only the most distinguished literary figures and humorists are invited" - informs a voiceover. Several shots of people and drawings are shown. An art editor (Bill Hewison) carves his initials on the table's surface - W. H. This is considered to be a tradition at the 'Punch' table. Some great men have carved their initials on it. Succession of C/U shots of the initials of the great men: American humorist James Thurber, novelist William Makepeace Thackeray, John Leach... and one of the three guests ever to be honoured with permission to carve their initials - Prince Philip. The editor Bernard Hollowood and the art editor Bill Hewison are seen working at the table covered in papers. Several shots of their faces and the drawings as they work. Follow the shots of the two brilliant late 19th century illustrations: "19th century forecast of television" and "air-to-air refuelling". The first depicts two men sitting in front of a fire place watching a wall illustration (looks as if it was projected on the wall) each holding a miniature gramophone horn in their hands. The second shows a zeppelin with a sign reading "Petrol Supply Co. Ltd" throwing a barrel in the air and a man standing on the aeroplane wing fishing it with a net. Mr Russell Brockbanck is seen working at his desk. Follows a succession of shots showing contemporary illustrations. Camera shows a clerk sorting subscription orders. The last stage of magazine mass-production is shown - a line of magazines is being stapled. Finally, the bags filled with magazines ready for distribution around the world are shown. Labels on the bags read Washington, Moscow, Johannesburg... Lots of labels lying around. Note: Those present at the Punch table were: Peter Agnew, Kenneth Bird, J. B. Boothroyd, H. F. Ellis, W. Hewison, C. Hollis, B. Hollowood, D. Langdon, R. Mallett, N. Mansbridge, F. L. Marsh, R. G. G. Price, B. A. Young and P. Dickinson. FILM ID:173.1 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. Boxing Trainer- Contemporary Tradigital Art / Painting / Drawing

04:22
My friend Al Alvir has a very popular Boxing/Mixed Martial Arts blog- http://shootafairone.com/ and I decided to create a character for one of the writers he has on staff (O'Toole). Allen is a big fan of Mike Tyson (heavyweight champion) and his legendary trainer Cus D'Amato who also trained managed Floyd Patterson (olympic and heavyweight champion) and Jose Torres (light heavyweight champion) so I made this character with D'Amato in mind. I used D'Amato reference photos for my initial drawing but also had fictional "Rocky" trainer Mickey Goldmill in mind (portrayed by Burgess Meredith). Using these two icons; one from pop culture one from reality, gave me an interesting image to illustrate. In this video, I documented my process. I started out with a pencil drawing that was based on reference photos of Cus D'Amato and fictional character Mickey Goldmill. Next, I cut out two boxing gloves from a photograph and glued them down. Then, I added a layer of illustration marker to quickly put down some color. I followed the markers with a layer of color pencil and I exadurated the wrinkles. I also use color pencil to prime the artwork for painting. Then I added some paint. The paint mixes very well with the color pencil. Next I scanned the artwork and opened it up in Paint Shop Pro 9. I didnt like the pose of the body so I changed it. (Arent digital possibilities wonderful?) I juxtaposed hands legs and feet. Then I printed it again. The print is like a dried layer of paint. I started layering with color pencil again and I followed it up with oil paint. Mixing traditional mediums with digital technologies is called tradigital art.
