Types of Crochet Yarn and their Different Uses - Crochet Yarn
The Most Common Types of Crochet Yarn and their Different Uses. Crochet Yarn comes in different thicknesses. They are used for different crochet projects. I'm going to cover briefly the 4 most common types of crochet yarn that are used in crocheting and their different uses. Firstly, I'll start with crochet thread. It is a bit thicker than sewing thread and is used to crochet finer articles like doilies and table runners. Secondly, there is the babyweight yarn as it is called in the U.S. or if you are in Australia, NZ or the UK you would call it 3 or 4 ply wool. And this yarn is for baby items. You will generally find that the texture of the babyweight yarn or 3 or 4 ply wool is softer than other yarns for obvious reasons which are that it is designed for babies. Thirdly, there is the worsted weight yarn as it's called in the U.S. In Australia, NZ or the UK it can be called double knitting or 8 ply wool. I just call it 8 ply. You use this type of yarn to make afghans, blankets, sweaters, scarves, gloves and any other item that would provide real warmth. This is typically the yarn that a beginner will use the most because it's easy to work with and it crochets up fairly quickly. And lastly, there is the chunky yarn or wool. Now, for demonstration purposes I have my pretty fancy chunky yarn here but they also come in the usual form, meaning without all this fluff and stuff, just like the 8 ply. Chunky yarn is great for whipping up scarves or sweaters in no time at all. The chunkier the yarn, the less time it takes to crochet something. So, that is a quick overview of the most common yarns and their differences. How to Pick Yarn | Crocheting
Top Rated Products for every Crochet projects: Ostart 22pcs Mixed Aluminum Handle Crochet Hook Set: http://amzn.to/1fVE5Wg ArtBin Yarn Drum: http://amzn.to/1PLQWH9 Lion Brand Yarn Bonbons Yarn Brights: http://amzn.to/1N3elV4 A to Z of Crochet: The Ultimate Guide: http://amzn.to/1KIYivD Watch more How to Crochet videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/472074-How-to-Pick-Yarn-Crocheting Hey, I'm Andrea Lemire, the education coordinator here at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. I'm going to show you some really cool techniques for beginning crochet, and hopefully, you'll have as much fun as I have with it. Okay, lets get started. So I'm going to talk to you now about choosing a good crochet yarn. When you're choosing a yarn you want to be paying attention to the ball band, that's the piece of paper around the yarn here. There are seven things to remember when looking at your ball band. One is the name of the yarn. Two is the name of the yarn color. Now those are good to know in case, one you run out of yarn and you need to get the same one in the same color or two, if you like it and you want to get it again in the future. The third thing you want to look for is the fiber content. So what is this yarn made from? There are wools, cottons, acrylics, blends and each one has different properties. So check with your local yarn store to find out more about what those fibers do. The fourth thing you want to be looking at is the yardage. That's how much yarn you have in the ball in front of you. Each pattern will specify a certain number of balls, so particularly if you're substituting a yarn for the yarn that's in the pattern, check with the people in your local yarn store and they will help you figure how much yarn you need for that pattern. The fifth thing you want to look out for is the care instructions. Different fibers have different care properties, some are hand wash only, some are machine washable. So, in particularly if you're crocheting a gift for someone who is just going to toss it into the machine, or especially for baby items, you want to make sure the yarn you're using is machine washable. The sixth thing you want to pay attention to is what hook size should I use with this yarn. On the ball bound its written right there, the recommended hook size as given by the manufacturer. So you can always find a safe hook size to use right on that ball. The last thing you want to be paying attention to on the ball band is the dye lot. The dye lot is the batch that they dyed that yarn in and so you want to make sure all those batch numbers match each other, otherwise you can get different shades in the project. Good yarns for beginners, if you're just starting out, you want to make sure you can see your stitches well so I recommend something much thicker, your stitches are going to be larger, and that way you can see what you're doing easier. Lion Brand Thick & Quick is a great option and particularly in terms of what the yarn is made from. Wool and acrylic blend like this yarn, is nice because the acrylic in the wool gives it a stretchier feel so it's going to be easier to get in and out of those stitches with your hook. Some other fun yarns to use if maybe you're moving on from that first project is color changing yarns because all you need to do is pick a basic stitch and let the color do the work for you. Some great yarns for that: Amazing is really interesting, it's got a lot of texture, really cool color patterns. Other great yarns are tweed stripes and you can choose them in a lot of different fibers. There are a lot of color changing yarns out there and use them to give that special thing to that project that you're making and you can let the yarn talk for you. Another type of yarn you can use to add some interesting texture to your piece, just using a basic stitch for it, is a textured yarn itself. Nature's Choice Organic Cotton is a great option. It's got a lot of texture, there are solids, multicolors, so you can pick the combo that you like the best and all you need is that nice basic stitch and it's going to give your project a really, really interesting pop. Homespun is another great yarn for that, super textured, really cool color combinations and so it looks like you put a lot more work into that project than you actually did by letting a textured yarn or multicolored yarn do the work for you. The last category of yarns that also really does the work for you in a project is novelty yarns. There are a lot of different types out there. Fun Fur is an example of a novelty yarn; it's a type of an eyelash yarn. So yarns like this really make your piece look extra special and all you need is that basic stitch and go with it and let that yarn do the wo

Fabric Focus Series Part 1 - Woven cotton
In the first episode of my brand new series I'm focusing on woven cotton fabrics for the home dressmaker and helping to demystify what all the types mean and what you can use them for. Follow this link to my blog post for show notes and links to the fabrics and patterns I mention in the video. https://guthrie-ghani.co.uk/blog/understanding-woven-cotton-fabric-for-dressmaking Trying to understand all the different types of fabric out there can seem like a daunting task, not just for beginners but for more experienced dressmakers too. There are different technical names, weights, thicknesses, fibre mixes and weaves, so it can all feel a bit overwhelming. In this new fabric focus series, I hope to make things a bit clearer for those of you planning a dressmaking project because matching the right fabric to the right pattern to achieve the look you want is key to a successful project that will become part of your handmade wardrobe. I sell a wide range of dressmaking fabrics and patterns on my online store at www.guthrie-ghani.co.uk/shop and we ship worldwide! PS. In the video I'm wearing a Grainline willow tank made using our Robert Kaufmann Homespun cotton/linen blend. I also knitted my cardigan - its from the Uniform book by Grainline patterns and madder.

Crochet Solid Circle, Create a Circle that Holds the Weight
I use Knit Picks Cotton Yarn to add to the strength http://shrsl.com/10uh5 The Crochet Solid Circle is primarily used to start any circle that is going to hold weight; such as a purse, or backpack. I’m assuming the technique (crocheting around the loose end and tightening it) has been around well before the early 1900’s. My assumption comes from remembering listening to the older Ladies in my Crochet Club talking about THEIR Grandmothers making “hauling bags” out of any stiff fiber that could handle a hook (extreme recycling). ** SHOW NOTES & RESOURCES ** 1. Knit Picks Cotton Yarn to add to the strength: http://shrsl.com/10uh5 Knit Picks calls this yarn Dishie. It’s 100% cotton, worsted weight, in Azure Blue. Best part, it’s no more expensive than the ‘big’ name brands. 2. The Crochet Hooks I used during the video was an H 5.00 mm, Clover Crochet Hook. I started using Clover Crochet Hooks shortly after my hand surgery and I truly believe they are part of what’s kept me crocheting. https://amzn.to/2K7k4QZ DISCLAIMER: This video and description contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links, I’ll receive a small commission. Yarn Tail: Easy Realistic Tail Tutorial Part 1
*FAQs!!! PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING!* 1)Q: *Will you make me a tail?* A: Yes I will. I have some up on my etsy: (www.etsy.com/shop/Zullala) and I am willing to make you a custom tail. I charge $3 an inch. 2) Q: *Can I use this method to make a MLP/horse tail?* A: It might work ok for PinkyPie, but if ya'll want to make a horse tail, you should check out my video: http://youtu.be/SM_TEkUoQZg (My Little Pony Tail Tutorial (Super Basic)) ^__^ 3) Q: *Is it normal to have so much extra fluff left over in the brush?* A: Yes, this is completely normal. You can use the extra fluff as stuffing. 4) Q: *What brand of yarn do you use?* A: "I Love This Yarn" brand, specifically "520 Naturals Stripes I Love this Yarn!" 5) Q: *I can't get that brand, what else can I use?* A: Yarns that are 100% Acrylic or 100% wool usually work out. Buy several different brands, make one knotted fluff with each brand, brush each knotted fluff out, then straiten it, and compare the knotted fluffs to see which is your favorite. Then exchange the yarns that you did not like for the yarn you did like. 6) Q: *Can I use Red Heart yarn?* A: Yes, you can use it. I personally don't like it because I think the fibers stick together and it's not as soft as I Love This Yarn. 7) Q: *What color is the yarn used in the video?* A: I'm using "520 Naturals Stripes I Love this Yarn!", but I normally don't pay attention to the names of the colors when I buy the yarn. I take a picture of a real tail with me and hold the picture up to the yarns and see if the color of the yarn is in the tail. 8) Q: *What weight and ply was the yarn you used?* A: It was 7oz and I don't remember the ply. 9) Q: *Does the base have to be a 4 strand braid, can I used a 3 strand braid?* A: Yes, it has to be a 4 strand braid so that there will be a place to put the elastic loop. Also, "Gilbert Beilschmidt" said he used an old T-shirt to make his 4 strand braid base. It's a good alternative to yarn. 10) Q: *How long is the tail?* A: 29in long. 11) Q: *How long is the guide string?* A: It is 6in long. 12) Q: *How many fluffs do you use?* A: YOU DON'T COUNT THE FLUFFS. That would take forever haha. I used 1 skein of yarn for the base and 5 skeins for the fluffs. 13) Q: *How many skeins of yarn do you use to make your tail?* A: 1 skein for the base and 5 skeins for the fluffs 14) Q: *If I make my tail X inches long and my base X inches wide, how much yarn will I need?* A: I have no idea, I don't do math. 15) Q: *How can I make a cat tail?* A: Make the base of the tail about the width of a half dollar and also make your fluffs shorter, maybe 1 or 2 inches long. That should yield a cat tail. For a more realistic effect make the end of your tail a little fluffier than the base. 16) Q: *How do you attach the tail?* A: I just slip a belt through the elastic loop and belt it on. You can prolly also clip the tail to your costume, sew it on, or velcro it on. Use your imagination. 17) Q: *Can I use my hair hairbrush?* A: A NORMAL BRUSH WILL NEVER WORK! Use a DOG BRUSH or CAT BRUSH. I suggest splurging for a the $5 dog brush because it has a button on it that helps you get the fluff out. It helps you from poking your fingers. The tail that I have made in the video is specifically a wolf tail. It's extra large and fluffy! SOOooo super cuddly :D!

2013 Crochet/Knit Dishcloth Swap on Ravelry.com
Annual Dishcloth Swap. http://www.ravelry.com/groups/annual-dishcloth-swap THE DISHCLOTH SWAP IS BACK Hey ya'll and welcome to this year's Annual Dishcloth/Washcloth/Spa-cloth Swap! THE RULES: Signing up: There's no need to sign up or notify anyone in any way that you intend to swap. Have your dishcloth at the destination below by JULY 27TH and you'll be swapping. If you don't have them there on time, they'll be returned to you. Feel free to participate in the Flickr and Ravelry groups, but it's not a requirement. Your Dishcloths: Each participant is required to crochet or knit 5 dishcloth/washcloth/spa-cloths in the same pattern. Please do vary the colors as you see fit. We don't want you bored to tears! Please be sure your cloths measure between 6x6 and 9x9 inches square or 6 to 9 inches in diameter. THEY MUST BE WITHIN THESE SIZE PARAMETERS OR THEY WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. Label each dishcloth with maker and care instructions. Feel free to include yarn and pattern info. Affix the label with a safety pin or tie it on. No straight pins, please. YARNS: 100% Cotton or cotton blend yarn -- 100% cotton yarn is awesome and is used often for dish/washcloths. Blends are great too but they need to be at least 50% cotton and contain no animal fibers. Linen and hemp yarn -- These yarns are yummy and last FOREVER. Feel free to use these yarns =D No boucle yarns -- This stuff is awesome but not for dishcloths. Its spun a little to loosely to take the abuse that dish/washcloths tend to take. Save this yummy stuff for hats and baby blankets! Worsted or DK weight -- #4 and #3 weight yarns make very scrubalicious washcloths. They clean well and they rinse and dry well when using this weight yarn too. Colors -- Gooooooo nuts! Solids! Variegated! Striped! Neutrals! Brights! Muted! Its all good =D These are absolute requirements and if you don't follow them, you won't be able to swap. The Actual Swapping: After the dishcloths are received, your hosts are going to get together and have a grand time looking at all of your gorgeous work and selecting 5 different beauties to send back to you. The goal of this swap is to produce and receive little pieces of fiber art. Use beautiful yarns, color combinations, and patterns. Don't feel pressured to use teensy little crochet cotton. Thicker cottons like Tahki Cotton Classic , Rowan Cotton Glace, and Elann Sonata make great washcloths. Have a ton of fun. Postage + Envelope: US participants need to include a self-addressed, postage-paid, large First Class Envelope (SASE). Please do NOT use those super-bulky 1/4" thick full-of-shredded-insulation type envelopes for the SASE, as they will cause over-weight and require extra postage (the envelopes themselves weigh 3 ounces or something ridiculous). Best are plastic envelopes or Tyvek®-style (though NOT the free priority ones the PO provides). Please put the P.O. Box address (PO BOX 1492, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91012) as the "sent from" address on the SASE. Do not leave it blank - the USPS will not accept a package without a return address. AND, if the return address and the mailing address are the same and the postage is short your package will get stuck in the DEAD MAIL box (details, details...I know...snooooooze). The current first class rate for a large envelope weighing up to 13 oz. is $3.77. We will make sure all packages stay under 13 oz. so that we're sure your postage is covered. You will have to purchase the stamp(s) to cover this. Also, as much as we love people sending us cash, do not send cash for postage instead of buying your own stamps. Your return envelope should be complete: mailing address, return address and adequate postage. Non-US participants Please see our Non US shipping page for details. We'll need to receive your dishcloth/washcloth/spa-cloth by July 27th, 2013. Please mail them to: Swap Headquarters PO BOX 1492 La Canada Flintridge, CA 91012 Also please include your Ravelry-name on the outside of the envelope that you are mailing all your stuff in. That way we can keep an easy list of whose package arrived and you can see when we got your package. Inspiration + Patterns: We have a page and a thread in the Ravelry group for pattern and yarn suggestions. Please add to it! Keep us abreast of your progress, both here and in the Flickr group. Talk about yarns, show us your progress and tell us about patterns. This will be a blast! Questions?: Feel free to post in the discussions section. Pm one of the mods of this group. Or email us at [email protected] TAG for projects in this swap: Annual-DC-Swap P.S. - Please only share your washcloth/dishcloth/spa-cloth/scrubbies projects with this group. While we love seeing your wonderful projects, let's keep it strictly cloths (OK - and potholders!) in the shared projects. Thanks!

DIY Friendship Bracelets. 5 Easy DIY Bracelet Projects!
DIY friendship bracelets! In this easy friendship bracelets tutorial I show 5 beautiful, easy friendship bracelet designs and projects, perfect for beginners. I love bracelet making and today you'll learn how to make friendship bracelet - a fishtail bracelet, rope bracelet, striped friendship bracelet, spiral bracelet and a threaded chain friendship bracelet. All these 5 bracelet projects are DIY bracelet with string, in the last one I pair the string or thread with a chain. A cool DIY fashion tutorial, since you can pair these bracelets with any outfit. I finish 4 bracelets with a knot and a cute flower or heart button, while I use the clasp for the chain bracelet. Let me know if you would like to learn more bracelet DIYs, maybe a rainbow loom DIYs without a loom? All bracelets are handmade, I made them myself and you can make them too at home! http://sarabeautycorner.com/ The first bracelet is an easy rope friendship bracelet, made with a help of a simple bracelet loom. Not the rainbow loom, but an easy cardboard loom, which you can make yourself in a minute. But if you want me to make a rainbow loom bracelets without a loom, tell me in the comments below! Once you have a loom ready, the only thing you need for the bracelet is embroidery floss, scissors and a button for the closure. This friendship bracelet is done in no time, and you can reuse the bracelet loom many times. For the spiral friendship bracelet you need embroidery thread, scissors and a button. The entire bracelet is built by simple forward knots which you need to repeat until the bracelet is long enough to fit your wrist. So just knot, knot and knot! This friendship bracelet takes 20 minutes at most to complete and it looks so cool. I used four different colors of embroidery string to get a lovely color blocking bracelet. I love how simple this bracelet is to make, perfect if you are a beginner in bracelet making. Next I show how to make a pretty fishtail bracelet using a string. Again I used 4 colors of embroidery thread to get a bright and colorful bracelet. This bracelet can also be made using a nylon cord or any kind of string of your choice. If you are familiar with a fishtail braid, then this bracelet will be super easy for you to make. It takes so little time to complete one, but I am in love this bracelet design. For the simple diagonal stripes friendship bracelet you need embroidery floss, scissors and a button. This bracelet is done only by making easy forward knots all along the bracelet. It is a bit more time consuming than other bracelets in this DIY bracelets tutorial, but since it looks so beautiful in the end, I believe it is worth investing a bit time into it. For this easy bracelet you can use more or less pieces of string than me. If you use more pieces of thread, the friendship bracelet will be wider in the end. The last bracelet is a lovely threaded chain bracelet. For this bracelet you have to wrap the string around one side of chain. I used a corally red string for my entire bracelet, but you can also change the string pieces as you move along the bracelet. This way you get a cool color blocking chain threaded friendship bracelet. Cotton Explained - How To Spot Quality Cotton Fabrics, Shirts, Sweaters - Gentleman's Gazette
https://gentl.mn/all-about-cotton FABRIC GUIDES you may want to check: Worsted Guide - https://gentl.mn/2xc95dx Flannel Guide - https://gentl.mn/2xNymPE So what exactly is cotton? It's basically linked from the cotton plant which is part of the Gossypium family and the fibers were meant to protect the seeds and are comprised entirely out of cellulose material you often find in nature, such as trees. Outer fabrics such as viscose, or bamboo fabrics, are all based on cellulose as well. Cotton plants are actually shrubs and they grow wildly but today, they're cultivated most of the time. Today, most of the cotton comes through US, China, India, as well as many countries in Africa, and South America. In the US, commercial level growth of cotton is heavily subsidized while developed nations hugely rely on machines to harvest cotton, it is still picked by hand in Africa, or in Egypt, in India, and developing countries. In terms of cotton quality, it all starts with a staple length. Short staple is considered three-quarters of an inch or about one and a half centimeters. Medium staple cotton is considerably about three-quarters of an inch to one and a quarter inch; a long staple cotton is anything from one and a quarter inch all the way up to two and a half inches. While the majority of cotton in the world is a short staple and then some medium staple, you will only see the staple infused in marketing for higher-end cottons. Sometimes, shirt makers also advertise Egyptian cotton and basically what they mean is it's the longest staple cotton from a batch, it's not necessarily cotton that is always from Egypt. You'll also find Egyptian cotton in towels or anything that touches the skin. Usually, it's used to demand a higher price from the consumer. A subgroup of Egyptian cotton you see so-called Giza cotton which is more high-end. Each Giza quality comes with a number. With Giza 45 con being the most luxurious and high-end Egyptian cotton on the market, its extra-long has superior fineness and is very consistent. In my experience, West Indian sea cotton is really the cream of the crop and I would even place it above a Giza 45 cotton. For dress shirts, I always go for a two-ply cotton and make sure that it's a hundred percent cotton and it's not stretch with polyester or nylon. While it makes it more durable and it's may be appropriate for uniforms, work wear, maybe for chefs in the kitchen, it's not something you want to wear on your skin because it's rougher and not as comfortable, also it's not as absorbent. So how can you find out if the cotton is luxurious? The problem is that you have a soft cotton, it can feel very comfortable on your skin, but it's, in fact, soft because the staple is so short. Higher-end cotton is usually very fine which means you can have a very fine weave and you get a very nice Sheen. For men's shirts, probably Albini is the largest kid on the block. So what are their cotton buying do's and don'ts? Don't believe that all cotton is created equal. Quality cotton is usually softer, it is shinier, it is finer, and it has a smaller impact on the environment because you can wear it for longer periods of time. You should always expect more from a higher and cotton retailer; they should be able to tell you what specific kind of cotton is used, how many plys they are, how heavy the fabric is, and where it was sourced. At the same time, don't believe all the labels that are not backed up by a trusted industry Authority such as Albini, Thomas Mason, or Tessitura Monti, or other famous cotton makers which are known to produce a quality product made out of long staple cotton. So how should you care for cotton? Fortunately, it's one of the more easier items to take care of. You can machine wash it, you can hand wash it, but machine wash is totally fine, the only time I'd stay away from machine washing my cotton is in a suit such as a seersucker suit or another cotton suit but mainly because of the canvas and the things on the inside not necessarily because of the fabric itself. #notsponsored #cotton #fabrics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular videos: How to accept a compliment - https://youtu.be/_EKXNmM1PUo 101 things that change when you dress up - https://youtu.be/JyGDd_iYaCI How to tie a Bow Tie - https://youtu.be/2I3cfa0BOOc --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Ep 119 - Yarn Shops in Shanghai
Shanghai is the destination for this week’s podcast, when I take a trip to not one, but two yarn shops in the area to check out the local knitting scene and the yarns on offer. The podcast theme music is now available on iTunes for purchase for 79p. The track is ‘I Need a Drink’ by Adam and the Walter Boys, who allow me to use it on the podcast with their kind permission. If you’ve ever wanted to listen to the whole song, go ahead and download it now. New Project. My new project is currently being built and some of the details have been sent to the VIP waiting list members, who have kindly agreed to help with testing of the site. If you would like to be one of the first people to get access to the site when it launches, you can join the waiting list and have advance notice ahead of the main launch. The site helps you find the perfect yarn for your project in one place, quickly and easily, so you can spend more time knitting. If you’ve ever been in the situation where you need a certain colour of yarn on a certain fibre blend base yarn and struggled to find it, this one’s for you. No more needing to go and search through multiple websites or take a chance at Etsy roulette when trying to find that perfect match. I’ve built the site to have specific search algorithms which will only serve you the yarn and colours you want, instead of a load of random tat a la Etsy. I’ll give you more details and the name of the site in the coming week or two but for now, if you want to get in there early, you can request access here. Yarn Shops in Shanghai First up I declare my undying love for the efficiency of the CRH railway system. I visited two yarn shops in Shanghai this weekend, one at either end of the market. This was a fascinating experience and I would highly recommend checking both out if you find yourself in the area. Both are under 15 minutes from the Bund are easily reached via a Didi or the Metro. Heng Yuan Xiang Yarn Shop Address: 358 Jinling East Road, Huangpu, Shanghai The company was founded in 1927 in Shanghai as a silky yarns company and produces a variety of goods including wools, knitting yarns, knitted apparel and home textiles. It is the largest annual seller of wool sweaters in China and has more than 100 factories. The brand covers more than 90% of the municipal market in China and became a state-owned enterprise in 1956. The knitting wool brand started in 1991 and in 1997 the brand expanded into sweaters, wool underwear and other knitted products. The company has 5800 sales outlets which run as franchises, with 375 million products available through these franchises. This shop is definitely on the bijou end of the scale, although it is easily identifiable from the street, unlike some yarn shops, which can appear to be ladies wear shops until you actually go inside. It is an Aladdin’s cave, literally full from floor to ceiling with bags and boxes of yarns. Yarns in these shops are usually displayed in boxes with clear plastic covers, which I assume are there to protect the yarn from dust or atmospheric pollution. There were a wide variety of blends of offer including merino, cashmere, yak, cotton, raccoon (!) and man made blends. The Beast selected a 70% cottony viscose and 30% wool in a fetching spearmint shade, at RMB48 or around £5.49 for 300g. I went for a 100% Australian Merino yarn in a guessing by eye DK weight at RMB 102 or £11.67. When in China it is rude not to try their yarns, so I decided to give it a bash and see how it performs for research purposes. Lotus Yarns Flagship Store (Yarn Avenue) Shanghai Lotus Cashmere Ltd started in 2007 with the Lotus Yarn brand being established in 2009. Lotus Yarns is the distributor for a low of western brands including Noro, Opal, Louisa Harding, Brooklyn Tweed, KnitPro, Brittany etc. The next yarn store was in the high end Western Joy City Mall. It is a new store which opened in January 2018 and is found on Level 6, the Creator level. It is set up in a very similar way to any western yarn shop in that all the yarn is open on the shelves in hanks or skeins, in easy feeling distance. This makes sense as it is inside a climate controlled mall so it is not subject to as much risk from dust etc. There was a good selection of samples as well as a wide range of notions on offer from familiar brand like KnitPro, Brittany, Clover etc. There was a workshop ongoing at the time I visited which prevented me from reaching the Lotus Yarns as they were behind a large table where the workshop was taking place. Also, it was not obvious who were the staff in the shop as they didn’t appear to have a uniform or clear name badge, and nobody came to assist us. It is definitely worth a visit as it is close to the tourist areas but expect to pay premium prices for the yarn on offer here, particularly if it is...

Best Eco Friendly Green Cotton For Fashion Brands Better Than Organic
ENOVA TEXTILES is one of the best Eco Friendly Green Cotton For Fashion Brands Better Than Organic Best Eco-Friendly Textile Brand Better then Organic - The Enova Process™ - Healing The Earth We are experiencing a very unique moment in time as we go from an “Industrial Paradigm” to a “EcoParadigm”. This monumental change is being accelerated by the desire of the world’s largest retailers and brands to transform their business to the “EcoParadigm” almost overnight. The combination of the desire to lower costs by increasing fuel efficiency, new technology, the acknowledgement of global warming and the social acceptance of the need to reduce our impact on Earth’s resources has thrust the world into the “EcoParadigm”. The global paradigm shift is changing the ways we interact with the Earth. We are beginning to understand that our natural resources are not limitless and are developing an awareness that our individual actions impact each other and the environment. Enova GREEN COTTON – Better than Organic Cotton? An estimated 40% of producible grown cotton is wasted between its harvest in the cotton field and the manufacturing a finished garment, equalling approximately 1.2 billion pounds (about 600,000 tons) of cotton fiber which is disposed of by spinning mills, weavers and fabric manufacturers every year in India. This pre-consumer “waste” goes directly into landfills and contributes to the formation of leachate as it decomposes, which has the potential to contaminate both surface and groundwater sources. The Enova Process™ uses much of this “waste”, regenerating it into new yarn which is used for knitting and weaving fabrics. We collect and separate the cotton fiber “waste” into seventeen categories. There is then a special process formula specific to each type of “waste” and to the yarn we are making from it. By regenerating cotton, we conserve landfill use and reduce the amount of land, water, energy and pesticides used for growing. The ENOVA Brand Enova Textiles originally started in 1990 under the name Paradigm One. From those roots, a strong foundation was built in global apparel manufacturing, merchandising and marketing, leading to the formation Enova Textile, LLC. Enova Textile uses an exclusive certified fiber regeneration process. The exclusive Enova Process™ begins with the requirements for the finished product from which we decide on the appropriate recycled processing. Our eco-friendly recycling certification is defined by our use of pre-consumer cotton waste and cutting scraps (obtained from a closed-factory environment), G O T S certified dyes and detergents that are reusable, organic or biodegradable, and the exclusive use of recycled and distilled water. And that's why ENOVA TEXTILES is one of the best Eco Friendly Brands for Green Cotton For Fashion Brands - Better Than Organic Better then Organic - The Enova Process™ - Healing The Earth For more information or to request a sample of our GREEN COTTON products, please contact us directly: ENOVA USA 001-704-621-6231 or 001-407-342-8458 email: [email protected] ENOVA TEXTILES Enova Textiles is a direct source supplier to the home goods and apparel wholesale, distribution and manufacturing sectors of Eco-green, recycled, regenerated and sustainable cotton products. How to Tell the Fiber Content of Fabric
https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/snap-on-presser-feet-set-low-shank-11-piece.aspx?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=Product Not sure what your fabric is made of? Try doing a Fabric Burn Test. Knowing the fiber content of your fabric will tell you how to wash, care for, and use your fabric. This is especially useful for the thrift shop hunters out there and yard sale junkies. Just because the neighbor says it's 100% wool, doesn't mean it is. Do your research and know what fabric you're working with. Oh, and BE SAFE! What does it mean when a pattern tells you to hold the yarn double stranded? I explain that in this video, and go a bit deeper - reasons to knit double stranded, winding the yarn together, and more.
