Sunnis in Iran (How Sunni Muslims live in a Shiite country?)

53:30
At the time of the Egyptian crisis, Ahmad Mustafa, an economic and political analyst from Egypt, finds an opportunity to travel to Iran to meet and talk Sunni people; an 11000 kilometer journey; a memorable visit, from the country’s most important decision-making centers to its most outlying border areas, from the green strands of the Caspian Sea forests to the Khorasan and Baluchistan desert areas and the high mountains of Kurdistan. On this journey he hopes he will know the real Iran, a country frequently misrepresented by Western and Arab media. How Sunni Muslims live in a Shiite country? That’s the question that’s brought Ahmad Mustafa to Iran. PRESS TV Documentaries

Tehran (Beautiful relaxing north Tehran) Darband Part 12

12:16
Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/user/nurettinodunya/playlists Darband: Beautiful relaxing north Tehran Darband: Darband was formerly a village close to Tajrish, Shemiran, and is now a neighbourhood inside Tehran's city limits. It is the beginning of a very popular hiking trail into the Mount Tochal, which towers over Tehran. A chair lift is also available for those not interested in hiking. The Persian word "darband" means gateway or door of the mountain ("band", a variation of "vand" and "fand", meaning mountain). Darband is where many Iranian giants of art and culture such as Iraj Mirza, Mohammad Taghi Bahar, Forough Farrokhzad, Abolhasan Saba, Ruhollah Khaleghi, Rahi Moayeri, and Darvish-khan are buried (Zahir o-dowleh cemetery). Darband has a suitable climate all year round, and sees heavy snowfall every year. The initial start of the trail at Darband is about 250 metres long and is dotted with a number of small cafes and restaurants. These are quite popular and are busy in the evenings, as locals and tourists alike visit the many hooka lounges (locally called qavekhane sonnati) along the trail.

No. 30 Iranian women qualify for Rio 2016

01:00
Despite 1,345 medals being handed out at the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games in South Korea, the most historical arguably went to the Iranian women’s sitting volleyball team as they reached the finals and qualified for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games for the very first time, making it one of the Top 50 Moments of 2014. Iran overcame Sri Lanka and Japan on their way to the finals, before losing to London 2012 Paralympic champions China in the final. Despite the result, their silver medal meant they still qualified for Rio 2016. In the preliminary rounds, Iran flew past Sri Lanka in a quick three sets in 38 minutes, building their confidence for the latter stages. They then beat Japan in the semi-finals, comfortably winning in three sets (18-26, 15-25, 23-25), to reach the final and claim revenge on the side that beat them at this stage at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China. Zeinab Maleki Dizicheh, top scorer for Iran in the semi-final, said she was delighted that the team achieved what they set out to. “Our main goal was the final and qualifying for the Paralympic Games for the first time. My team was overjoyed,” she said. “I was waiting four years for these Games. All these successes are because of our efforts and more improvements since Guangzhou.” Since her first professional competition in Egypt in 2008, Maleki Dizicheh has learnt that defeat powers you on to victory, and says that her personal philosophy is that “After any loss, there is a victory. It’s just that I should fight for it.” The team certainly fought in Incheon, going into the final confident and prepared. Ahead of Incheon the team attended six different sport camps focusing on techniques, tactics and overall fitness. Going into the final against London 2012 champions China, revision was key. “When we reached the final, we watched our competitions with China again and again to find out our weaknesses and strengths, to know more about the Chinese team,” Zeinab said. In the finals, Iran fought hard but lost in three sets (15-25, 12-25, 15-25). Again Maleki Dizicheh was top scorer, driving the team forwards with her excellent ball handling skills and creative hitting. “China are the champions in Paralympic Games and World Championships,” she said. “We hoped to do better, but as this Iranian team had not participated in any international competitions before Incheon, we did not have enough experience. “I am sure we will compete much better next time against China.” Now, Iran are looking forward to the first ever Paralympic Games in the team’s history and Maleki Dizicheh is looking to go one step further and win gold in Rio. “After four hard-working years, we have qualified for the Paralympic Games for the first time. Success at Rio 2016 is my main goal and my teammates too.” Visit the IPC’s Top 50 Moments of 2014 campaign page for more information

Azar Nafisi: Iranian Mythology: How do we decode Iran?

02:30
Azar Nafisi on Iranian culture being more poetry than sharia.   Azar Nafisi: Well you know the mythology of Iran -- my father used to tell me that our country has been invaded many times. Constantly we have been as an empire, Greeks, Romans, then the Arabs, then the Mongols. And he said that the land is ruined. The houses go. Languages perish. But he said one thing we have kept which gives us the Iranian identity, and that's our poetry and our literature. ... resurrected ancient Iran and linked it to the present Iran through his mythology going back to 3,000 years before. So for me the myth of Iran comes out of this weaving of the stories about values that Iran has tried to keep, which is human dignity basically. When I read..., what comes to me as a value is dignity -- the idea of dignity; people giving their lives for it. You know and so I hope that that is the mythology that people think about. Whether they talk about Islamic Iran, or the Zoroastrian Iran, or just Iran, I think that they should go back to that mythology. Americans want to respect us, they should not say the Sharia laws is good for them because it's their culture. The greatest Islamic philosophers and poets came out of Iran. Why don't they remind us of ...who 750 years ago was criticizing the hypocritical clerics who, as he said, flogged people in public and drink wine in private? One of the most erotic forms of poetry comes out of the Arab and Persian culture. The most sensual music and dance comes out of . . . out of my culture. You want to celebrate us, and to believe in a myth. I'd rather you believe in this myth than the myth that Mr. Ahmadinejad is packaging.     Azar Nafisi: Well you know the mythology of Iran -- my father used to tell me that our country has been invaded many times. 🇦🇫 The Girls of the Taliban | Featured Documentary

47:21
An insight into a girls' school in Afghanistan which imposes an even stricter interpretation of Islam than the Taliban. Filmmakers: Najibullah Quraishi and Jamie Doran Kunduz in northern Afghanistan is the country's fifth largest city and home to more than 300,000 people. It's fine to go to madrasa to learn about sharia, the Quran and Islam. But beyond that, they keep girls in total darkness like the blind. They keep them illiterate. Zargul Azimi, teacher It was once a Taliban stronghold where women were deprived of their basic rights and education for girls was prohibited. Today, particularly in towns and cities, women can go outside without their husbands or fathers, they can work, and girls can attend school and even university. But with a new wave of privately run madrasas - or religious schools - being opened across the country, there is a growing feeling among women's rights groups that these freedoms are again under threat. There are now 1,300 unregistered madrasas in Afghanistan, where children are given only religious teaching. This is increasing fears among those involved in mainstream education. Arguably the most controversial of these madrasas is Ashraf-ul Madares in Kunduz, founded by two local senior clerics, where 6,000 girls study full time. The girls attend the madrasa solely to study the Quran and the teachings of the prophet Mohammed. They are taught by male teachers, who they are forbidden from meeting face-to-face, and full hijab must be worn. In The Girls of the Taliban, our cameras gain unprecedented access to film inside this madrasa, to meet with the girls and their families and to question the men behind it. - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/
