Oracle 12c New Feature Spotlight Synchronous Refresh for Materialized Views
Materialized views can perform a number of roles, such as improving query performance or providing replicated data. Prior to Oracle 12c, materialized views used traditional refresh methods where changes were applied to the base tables and then the materialized views were refreshed separately with one of several methods. Synchronous refresh is a new approach in Oracle 12c R1 for maintaining tables and materialized views where tables and materialized views are refreshed at the same time. This webinar will discuss the benefits of the synchronous refresh method along with how to implement it.

SQL Server 2012 Replication Snapshot Replication Configuration
Concepts of Replication in SQL Server 2012 and Configuration of Snapshot replication in SQL Server 2012. Features of SQL Server 2012 Replication Updatable subscriptions with transactional publications are discontinued. Four new stored procedures provide replication support for AlwaysOn. sp_get_redirected_publisher sp_redirect_publisher sp_validate_replica_hosts_as_publishers sp_validate_redirected_publisher Replication supports the following features on Availability groups: A publication database can be part of an availability group. The publisher instances must share a common distributor. In an AlwaysOn Availability Group, an AlwaysOn secondary cannot be a publisher. Republishing is not supported when replication is combined with AlwaysOn. Heterogeneous replication to non-SQL Server subscribers is deprecated. To move data, create solutions using change data capture and SSIS. Oracle Publishing is deprecated. SQL Server replication is based on the concept of “Publish and Subscribe”. Publisher It is a source database where replication starts. It makes data available for replication. Publishers define what they publish through a publication. Article Articles are the actual database objects like tables, views, indexes, etc. An article can be filtered when sent to the subscriber. Publication A group of articles is called publication. An article can’t be distributed individually. Hence publication is required. Distributor It is intermediary between publisher and subscriber. It receives published transactions or snapshots and then stores and forwards these publications to the subscriber. It has 6 system databases including distribution. Subscriber It is the destination database where replication ends. It can subscribe to multiple publications from multiple publishers. It can send data back to publisher or publish data to other subscribers. Subscription It is a request by a subscriber to receive a publication. We have two types of subscriptions - push and pull. Push Subscriptions With this subscription, the publisher is responsible for updating all the changes to the subscriber without the subscriber asking those changes. Push subscriptions are created at the Publisher server Pull Subscriptions - With this subscription the subscriber initiates the replication instead of the publisher. The subscriptions are created at the Subscriber server. Replication process works in the background with the help of jobs. These jobs are also called as agents. These jobs internally uses respective .exe files present in  \110\COM folder. All the agents information is present in Distribution db in the following tables. dbo.MSxxx_agents dbo.MSxxx_history Snapshot Agent It is an executable file that prepares snapshot files containing schema and data of published tables and db objects. It stores the files in the snapshot folder, and records synchronization jobs in the distribution database. Distribution Agent It is used with snapshot and transactional replication. It applies the initial snapshot to the Subscriber and moves transactions held in the Distribution db to Subscribers. It runs at either the Distributor for push subscriptions or at the Subscriber for pull subscriptions. Log Reader Agent It is used with transactional replication, which moves transactions marked for replication from the transaction log on the publisher to the distribution db. Each db has its own Log Reader Agent that runs on the Distributor and connects to the Publisher. Merge Agent Snapshot Replication Transactional Replication Merge Replication The snapshot process is commonly used to provide the initial set of data and database objects for transactional and merge publications. It copies and distributes data and database objects exactly as they appear at the current moment of time. Snapshot replication is used to provide the initial data set for transactional and merge replication. It can also be used when complete refreshes of data are appropriate. Scenarios When the data is not changing frequently. If we want to replicate small amount of data. To replicate Look-up tables which are not changing frequently. It is acceptable to have copies of data that are out of date with respect to the publisher for a period of time For example, if a sales organization maintains a product price list and the prices are all updated at the same time once or twice each year, replicating the entire snapshot of data after it has changed is recommended To Learn or Teach Linux visit www.theskillpedia.com, A Marketplace for Learners and Trainers.

How to Structure Your Schema-less Database
Adam Fuchs, CTO and Co-Founder of sqrrl, discusses how to bring structure to noSQL database environments in this whiteboard session hosted by Wikibon's Dave Vellante. NoSQL continues to gain adoption, primarily due to the need for it in corporate daily operations and the freedom it provides compared to the rigid schemas associated with relational technologies. That's the big picture from Coucbbase, which today announced the results of a survey it did with 1,300 practitioners. Couchbase is one of the leading vendors in the NoSQL market so it's not a big surprise to see them publish these rosy results. But the finding do speak to the overall transformation of the database market and the roaring plume of data that is shaping a new tech landscape. I agree that NoSQL has moved beyond the experimentation phase. In part, you can thank Oracle for that. The fact they jumped into the market has given customers more reason to invest more capital into the technology. It's a validation point. Here are some of the results from the survey: Nearly half of the more than 1,300 respondents indicated they have funded NoSQL projects in the first half of this year. In companies with more than 250 developers, nearly 70% will fund NoSQL projects over the course of 2012. 49% cited rigid schemas as the primary driver for their migration from relational to NoSQL database technology. Lack of scalability and high latency/low performance also ranked highly among the reasons given for migrating to NoSQL (see chart below for more details). 40% overall say that NoSQL is very important or critical to their daily operations, with another 37% indicating it is becoming more important. Couchbase asked how companies are using NoSQL Some interesting answers included that go beyond the traditional use cases: real-time tracking and segmentation of users for ad targeting disaster recovery inventory tracking manufacturing automation insurance underwriting multi-call center operations (with replication of production data) Twitter stream analysis Respondents were also asked about what they expect and hope for out of NoSQL in 2012. Couchbase breaks down what they say into four boxes: schemas; replacing RDMS/making it default database; scalability/performance and speed/agility in app development. Answers included: Gaining freedoms from inflexible schemas that do not adapt well to changing business requirements. Making NoSQL an integral part of daily operations and handle at least 30% of transaction load. Allowing the capability to share billions of documents across multiple commodity servers. Help in deploying new features faster without having to manage SQL patch scripts and migrations. ServicesAngle NoSQL -- it fits with so much that we write about. It's a huge factor in the transformation of the enterprise and a necessary focus for any services provider looking to provide a level of value added services. How to Set Up MySQL Replication
In this easy step by step tutorial, you will learn how to replicate the contents of MySQL database. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.Facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on Facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ Introduction MySQL Replication basically allows the contents of the master database server in MySQL to be replicated to other database servers. In this tutorial we will show you how to set up MySQL replication through phpMyAdmin. Step#1: Getting Started with Replication To get started, first of all, log in to your php my admin panel, and then click on the Replication tab on the top. Step#2: Replication Plan From there, click on the Configure option, under the Master Replication section. With that done, the master configuration section will expand, having a list of databases and a replication plan as well. Step#3: Create new Database Here, you can either Replicate All databases while ignoring the ones selected, or the other way round, that is, ignore all the databases and replicate the ones which would be selected. Let's choose the second plan and then select the database named "test" over here. With that done, copy the lines shown below the list. These have to be added in the MySQL "my.ini" file. Step#4: MY.INI File Since we are using the XAMPP server, the "my.ini" file can be fetched by clicking on the Config button and choosing the "my.ini" option against the MySQL Module. Step#5: Setting up MY.INI File Once the file opens up, navigate to the "log_error" parameter, and just paste the copied lines beneath that. With that done, change the "max allowed packet" size to 16 MB. Once you are done with that, scroll down the file and comment out the "server-id" parameter with a hash sign. When you are done with that, save the file and then restart the services of both Mysql and Apache. Step#6: Master Replication Setup After that, switch back to your phpMyAdmin page, and hit the F5 key to refresh the panel. With that done, move over to the Replication tab again. There you will find that the Master Replication has been set up successfully. You can click on the Show Master Status option to see its status. Now, click on the Add Slave Replication user option to add a Replication user Step#7: Creating Replication User Specify the username and the host, and then click on the Go button. A replication user would be added as a result. Step#8: Slave Replication Setup Now open up the Replication tab again, and click on the Configure option under the Slave Replication section. Another page will open up, and from here, copy the Server id which has to be pasted in the "my.ini" file. So let's open up the "my.ini" file again and locate the "server-id " parameter which we had commented earlier. Over here, simply paste the Server id copied from the Slave configuration, save the file and restart the MySQL services. Step#9: Updating Slave Configuration Now switch back to the Slave Replication page again, and specify the user details which were created before. With that done, click on the Go button. A message will appear that the Master server had changed successfully. Step#10: Warning Messages Now, if you open the Replication tab once more, you will notice two warning messages appearing in the Slave Replication portion. One would be regarding the Slave SQL Thread and the other would be regarding the Slave IO Thread, both of which won't be running. To resolve these errors, simply click on the Control Slave option, and Start these threads one after another. You will notice that the warning messages would disappear. Step#11: Verifying Replicated database Now click on the Databases tab and here you can see that the test database has been replicated successfully. This means that we have setup and configured MySQL replication. And this is how to set up MySQL replication using phpMyAdmin.
