The Complete Psalter (Psalms 1 - 150)

11:22:54
There are Catholics in some Ordinariates that sing Anglican chant. Since Pope Benedict allowed Anglican priests to convert, and bring with them a lot of their liturgy and sacred music, Anglican chant has been brought by these Ordinariates into parts of the Catholic Church. With this in mind we share the Psalms of David in Anglican Chant. This is Anglican form of the part of the Divine Office as found in the Common Prayer so I post outside of my playlist. Thank you for your understanding. (List of Psalms were too long for YouTube description. I will try and make list in a post.)

Morning & Evening Prayers : Read in Monotone out of the Jordanville Prayerbook#1/2

13:51
These are Morning and Evening Prayers for the Eastern Orthodox Church. This book is of Russian Orthodox Origin and most of the prayer were written by very Holy Men who had attained the Knowledge of God through Theoria. (When we say "knowledge of God" do not think of it in relations to human reasoning. God is known in a man's Nous - Nous is a Greek word which is often wrongly translated as "mind" in english. The Nous is "The Eye of the Soul", or it is, "The Purest Part of the Soul"). These prayers were chanted in monotone by the Russian Monk of the Holy Cross. You can buy the CD with the Prayers on it at their gift-shop online and also the "Psalter", and "The Preparation for Holy Communion". They shall be put to shame That in my hurt delight, And backward in dishonor turned, Their mocking to requite. 3. All they that seek Thy face With joy in Thee abide, And, loving Thy salvation, say, Let God be magnified. 4. In need am I, and poor; O God, make haste, I pray; Thou art my Saviour and my help, O Lord, make no delay.

Psalm 63 - Psalter 163 Satisfaction in God

02:30
Performance by the Psalm Choir of Psalm 63, Psalter 163 titled "Satisfaction in God" from their CD "Fitting Praises Volume 4" This tune was originally composed by George C. Stebbins in 1878 and is titled "The Green Hill." It was originally used for the hymn Cecil Alexander published in 1847 with that name. (info from http://www.cyberhymnal.org) Most of the members of the choir are from the Protestant Reformed Churches in America. For more info about this denomination check out http://www.prca.org The Psalter was first published in 1912 by the United Presbyterian Church. Lyrics: 1. O Lord, my God, most earnestly My heart would seek Thy face, Within Thy holy house once more To see Thy glorious grace. Apart from Thee I long and thirst, And nought can satisfy; I wander in a desert land Where all the streams are dry. 2. The lovingkindness of my God Is more than life to me; So I will bless Thee while I live And lift my prayer to Thee. In Thee my soul is satisfied, My darkness turns to light, And joyful meditations fill The watches of the night. 3. My Saviour, 'neath Thy sheltering wings My soul delights to dwell; Still closer to Thy side I press, For near Thee all is well. My soul shall conquer every foe, Upholden by Thy hand; Thy people shall rejoice in God, Thy saints in glory stand. Quoted from hymntime.com "In 1841, Bradbury turned his attention to children, and first held his free singing classes, which became very popular. At his annual Juvenile Music Festivals, one could see a thousand children on a rising platform, the girls wearing white, with white wreaths and blue sashes, and the boys in jackets, with collars turned over in Byron style. These efforts among the young gave Bradbury great celebrity, a host of warm friends, and eventually led to his life work of providing Sunday School songs. Over three million copies of his Golden Trio, Golden Chain, Golden Shower, and Golden Censer were published." Special thanks to Nick Kleyn for taking this video. The man who once has found abode Within the secret place of God Shall with Almighty God abide, And in His shadow safely hide. 2. I of the Lord my God will say, He is my refuge and my stay; To Him for safety I will flee, In Him my constant trust shall be. 3. The Lord with His protecting care Shall keep thee from the hidden snare; When fearful plagues around prevail Thy life the scourge shall not assail. 4. Thou shalt beneath His wings abide, And safe within His care confide; His faithfulness shall ever be A sure protection unto thee.

Psalter #31 - Psalm 17 "The Prayer of the Righteous"

02:59
The Prayer of the Righteous - Psalm 17 1. Lord, hear the right, regard my cry, My prayer from lips sincere; Send Thy approval from on high, My righteousness make clear. Thou in the night my heart hast tried, Nor found it turned from Thee aside. 2. With steadfast courage I design No wrong to speak or do; Thy path of life I choose for mine And walk with purpose true. For help, O God, I cry to Thee, Assured that Thou wilt answer me. 3. O Thou that ever savest those Whose trust on Thee is stayed, Preserving them from all their foes By Thy almighty aid, Let me Thy lovingkindness see, Thy wondrous mercy, full and free. 4. O guard me well as one doth guard The apple of the eye; While deadly foes are pressing hard, To Thee, to Thee I cry. Do Thou my rest and refuge be, O let Thy wings o'er-shadow me. 5. My enemy, grown strong in pride, Would take my life away, A lion lurking by my side, Most greedy for his prey. Confront and cast him down, O Lord, From evil save me by Thy sword. 6. Defend me from the men of pride, Whose portion is below, Who, with life's treasures satisfied, No better portion know; They, with earth's joys and wealth content, Must leave them all when life is spent. 7. When I in righteousness at last Thy glorious face shall see, When all the weary night is past, And I awake with Thee To view the glories that abide, Then, then I shall be satisfied.

My constant calling wearies me, My throat is parched and dried; My eyes grow dim while for my God Still waiting I abide. 3. The foes who hate me unprovoked Are strong and still increase, Though to disarm their enmity My right I yield for peace. 4. O God, my folly and my sin Thy holy eye can see; Yet save from shame, Lord God of Hosts, Thy saints that wait on Thee. 5. Forbid, O God, our covenant God, That those who seek Thy face Should see Thy servant put to shame And share in my disgrace.

First upload. It is far from perfect but it is a work in progress. I'm still figuring out what I'm doing! Video was originally 25 minutes long but YouTube made me condense it. There was some rather loud vehicles outside while I was filming at the beginning, so I sacrificed my intro. I did film one, though! The Psalter - Psalm 8 - Psalm 150 Sung at Westminster Abbey

02:33:29
Thanks, De Profundis For providing this. Almost the whole Psalter, sung by the choir of Westminster Abbey Starting with Psalm 8, and ending with Psalm 150. Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV) 91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. King James Version (KJV) Public Domain And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3

(source http://www.hymntime.com) Most of the members of the choir are from the Protestant Reformed Churches in America. O teach Thou us to count our days And set our hearts on wisdom's ways; Turn, Lord, to us in our distress, In pity now Thy servants bless; Let mercy's dawn dispel our night, And all our day with joy be bright. 2. O send the day of joy and light, For long has been our sorrow's night; Afflicted through the weary years, We wait until Thy help appears; With us and with our sons abide, In us let God be glorified. 3. So let there be on us bestowed The beauty of the Lord our God; The work accomplished by our hand Establish Thou and make it stand; Yea, let our hopeful labor be Established evermore by Thee.

Psalter 392 - Psalm 144 - Trustful Praise and Prayer - tune of dawn

03:57
1 Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: 2 My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. 3 LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! 4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. 5 Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. 6 Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them. 7 Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children; 8 Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood. 9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. 10 It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword. 11 Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood: 12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: 13 That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: 14 That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets. 15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

Psalm 88 Psalter 240 An Outpouring of Sorrow

05:17
Performance by the Psalm Choir of Psalm 88, Psalter 240 titled "An Outpouring of Sorrow" from their CD "Fitting Praises Volume 6" The tune is named "Irving" and was composed by W. Irving Hartshorn. The Hymnary and Hymntime websites have no biographical information about the composer and no information about the history of this tune. It appears that the tune was only used for the Psalter. Most of the members of the choir are from the Protestant Reformed Churches in America. For more info about this denomination check out http://www.prca.org The Psalter was first published in 1912 by the United Presbyterian Church. Lyrics Verse 1 Lord, the God of my salvation, day and night I cry to Thee; let my prayer now find acceptance, in Thy mercy answer me. Full of troubles and affliction, nigh to death my soul is brought helpless, like one cast forever from Thy care and from Thy thought. Verse 2 Thou hast brought me down to darkness, 'neath Thy wrath I am oppressed; all the billows of affliction overwhelm my soul distressed. Thou hast made my friends despise me, and companionless I go, bound, and helpless in my bondage, pining in my bitter woe. Verse 3 Unto Thee with hands uplifted daily I direct my cry; hear, O Lord, my supplication, hear and save me ere I die. Wilt Thou wait to show Thy wonders and Thy mercy to the dead? Let me live to tell Thy praises, by Thy lovingkindness led. Verse 4 Still, O Lord, renewed each morning unto Thee my prayer shall be; cast me not away forever, let me now Thy favor see. All my life is spent in sorrow, grief and terror always nigh, waves of wrath have surged about me; show Thy mercy ere I die. Verse 5 Friend and lover are departed, dark and lonely is my way; Lord, be Thou my friend and helper, still to Thee, O Lord, I pray. Lord, the God of my salvation, day and night I cry to Thee; let my prayer now find acceptance, in Thy mercy answer me. Liturgy of the Hours | Easter Sunday Lauds

24:55
“The Mundelein Psalter is perfect for the parish setting. The tones are beautifully presented, as well as very accessible, which makes it ideal for use in a parish community. I had the privilege of praying the Psalter while studying liturgyand found that it brought me to a much deeper place in my prayer life. I would strongly recommend the MundeleinPsalter to any parish community, as it embraces the rich tradition of chant in the Catholic Church.” +Bishop James Wall | Diocese of Gallup, NM To Purchase the Mundelein Psalter, go to http://www.ltp.org/p-1536-the-mundelein-psalter.aspx

The frequent use of the Psalms, by both monastics - who have consecrated their lives to the praise of God - and devout lay-people, transports humanity from this world into an anticipation of eternal life, in communion with all the saints who before it have prayed in this manner. It is with this aim of giving back to the psalms of David the place that the Church always reserved for them, that the monks of Simonopetra, through the initiative of their Abbot, Archimandrite Aimillanos, set out to put the Psalter to music, according to the traditional rules of Byzantine chant.” It was with the aim of giving back to the Psalms of David the place that the Church always reserved for them, that the monks of Simonopetra, through the initiative of their Abbot, Archmandrite Aimilianos, set out to put the Psalter to music, according to the traditional rules of Byzantine chant. This enterprise has led to the publishing of a book numbering over of 600 pages of music manuscript, the "Psalterion Terpnon", of which the present recordings, performed by the Monastery's choir, are an illustration.

Idahoan Psalter: Psalm 17

04:11
The Idahoan shares his paraphrase of the 17th Psalm. Lyrics: Oh, Lord attend unto my cry, Give ear unto my prayer, Hear me when I speak a right, For my words Thou knowest are sincere. Be Thou the Judge of this my cause, And rule with equity, For Thou hast cleansed my heart of flaws 'Til Thou wilt find no fault in me, And I shall not speak a word in error, That I may not fall into the snare Of devious worldly ways. Uphold me, Lord, as I tread Thy path, That my footsteps may not falter. Oh Thou that deliveredst them from the world's wrath Who kneel before Thine alter, Unto Thee I cry, For Thou wilt hear my prayer, Guard me as the apple of thine eye, Beneath Thy wings let me repair, For I am surrounded by my foes, Whose boasting tempts me to despair, While they with luxury enclose, On every side their shameless lair. They lurk like hungry predators, Greedy of their prey. Oh Lord, my Great Deliverer, Let them fall upon dismay. Yet even they are in Thy hand A sword of retribution, With which to chastise all the land, And discipline Thy children. Unwittingly they work Thy will, And in this life their cup You fill, With treasure in abundance, 'Til death over them doth prevail, And they leave to heirs their substance. But as for me, I shall behold Thy face in righteousness, Satisfied with joy untold, Hereafter in Thy likeness!
