Manhattan, New York - Sea To City - Filmed in 12K

06:00
Thank you so much for the overwhelming response on the last Above NYC shoot. Here is another piece shot with the Large Format 12K Aerial Camera Array. This time we have a long form aerial shot taking us from the sea to within Manhattan. A tricky one to film and also a tricky one to stitch together. Enjoy.

First 2 Chinook (or Sea Knight) helicopters arrive with security and personnel, followed by 2 Marine One's (the real one and a decoy) landing. The President then heads into the Presidential Limo (Cadillac One) and the motorcade heads up the FDR Drive. Fascinating sight! Sea level rise is so much more than melting ice

06:09
While researching climate change, we heard something confusing: the sea level in New York City is rising about one and a half times faster than the global average. We couldn’t figure out what that meant. Isn’t the sea level...flat? So we called up an expert and went down the rabbit hole. And, we did our best to visualize her truly bizarre answers with animations, dioramas, and a lot of melting ice. Sea Lions at the New York Aquarium, Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY

04:33
Sea Lions at the New York Aquarium, Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY Sea lions are sea mammals characterized by external ear flaps, long foreflippers, the ability to walk on all fours, short, thick hair, and a big chest and belly. Together with the fur seals, they comprise the family Otariidae, eared seals. A male California sea lion weighs on average about 300 kg (660 lb) and is about 8 ft (2.4 m) long, while the female sea lion weighs 100 kg (220 lb) and is 6 ft (1.8 m) long. The largest sea lion is Steller's sea lion, which can weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) and grow to a length of 10 ft (3.0 m). Sea lions consume large quantities of food at a time and are known to eat about 5–8% of their body weight (about 15–35 lb (6.8–15.9 kg)) at a single feeding. Sea lions can go around 16 knots in water and at their fastest they can go up to 30 knots. Three species, the Australian sea lion, the Galápagos sea lion and the New Zealand sea lion are listed as Endangered. The New York Aquarium is the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States, having opened in Castle Garden in Battery Park, Manhattan in 1896. Since 1957, it has been located on the boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The aquarium is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) as part of its integrated system of four zoos and one aquarium, most notably the Bronx Zoo. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). As part of WCS, the aquarium's mission is to save wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature. The facility occupies 14 acres and boasts 266 species of aquatic wildlife. Its mission is to raise public awareness about issues facing the ocean and its inhabitants with special exhibits, public events and research. The New York Seascape program, based out of the aquarium, is WCS’s local conservation program designed to restore healthy populations of marine species and protect New York waters, which are vital to the area’s economic and cultural vitality. The new New York Aquarium is the home of the WCS New York Seascape program – the society’s research and conservation program focusing on nearby rivers, harbor, and ocean from Cape May, New Jersey to Montauk, Long Island. Hurricane Sandy in Brooklyn, New York - Picture Report from Sea Gate, Brighton Manhattan Beach, NY

07:41
Hurricane Sandy in Brooklyn, New York - Picture Report from Sea Gate, Brighton Manhattan Beach, NY Picture report by professional photographer Anton Oparin about catastrophic disaster due Hurricane Sandy in Sea Gate, Brighton Manhattan Beach neighborhoods in Brooklyn, New York. October 29 - November 03, 2012 Hurricane Sandy came through and devastated our community. Sea Gate, Manhattan Beach and Sheepshead Bay neighborhoods in Brooklyn were among the hardest hit places. The damage is unimaginable, over 200 houses were flooded or washed out to sea. The winds put telephone poles through windows and the water flooded cars and homes. Some of us were luckier than others, the more fortunate have a house still standing and their families safe. As if the flooding and 90mph winds weren't enough, there were fires sparking all over the place. Local heroes emerged during the storm, braving the hurricane winds, flying objects, downed electrical wires and neck deep, contaminated, rushing ocean water to save their neighbors from their burning homes. The pictures don't even do it justice, and the experiences many endured are unforgettable, the stories are endless, but we will RECOVER and WE WILL REBUILD. Things are replaceable but lives lost are not. While my family and I were lucky to survive, there were lives that were lost. To those who have suffered such a horrible loss my sincerest condolences to you and your family. As of early Wednesday Nov 07 morning, roughly 676,000 were still without power in the Northeast. This is a remarkable drop from the peak of roughly 8.6 million one week ago. Sadly, 112 have been confirmed dead from Sandy in the U.S., including Puerto Rico.

Originally composed for the Barbra Streisand film, 'The Prince Of Tides', Barry walked away from the project when asked to change his music. He used the theme as the title track to his 1992 album, 'Moviola' and re-arranged it again as 'Flight Over New York' from the 1995 IMAX film, 'Across The Sea Of Time'. She has said that she tries to create the sounds of other instruments through her guitar. Visually, Calvi nods to the world of flamenco in her stage outfits. However, rather than wearing the traditional frilly dress, she opts for the high trousers and blouse of a male dancer. Following her album release show at Hoxton Hall in London, Calvi won over critics with her "performance of superb self-possession and dramatic timing. The Independent called her a "strumming seductress" who was "born to be heard in person" playing "with every ounce of passion." Anna Calvi's European tour started in February 2011. She first visited the USA in March. Calvi's show at Le Trianon in Paris on 22 April was broadcast live on the website of ARTE. She headlined the NME tour in May. Calvi was chosen by Ray Davies of The Kinks to co-headline the Meltdown Festival 2011. Calvi continued touring Europe throughout Autumn 2011 which was filmed and released as a 2 part series called "Somewhere Along The Line". Calvi's Shepherds Bush Empire show sold out weeks in advance.
