Innovation - Students of Product Design Episode1

12:49
This series 'Students of Product Design' is aimed at anyone interested in the product design process. This first episode looks at innovation, how to innovate and how simply changing the structure of the brief can impact on how innovative you can be. This series won't just talk about stuff, the plan is to share with you as many of the things I have learnt in the last 15 years (or so..) as possible through each stage of the design process to help you become far better designers than I can ever be. I'll be looking at research, sketching, model making, portfolios and a whole load of other things. I often think of youtube as a speed learning tool. Have you ever seen the Matrix films where Neo first learns martial arts by uploading a programme to his head or Trinity learns to fly a helicopter in minutes, that's how I see Youtube, Youtube is our version of the Matrix. So this series which is primarily aimed at students studying industrial design, product design or design engineering in university is designed to do just that, give you a knowledge boost to hopefully make your projects, designs, presentations and portfolio a lot better to improve your chances of getting a position as a designer, or your projects if you want to start your own company, anything related to design. I also hope with the content, that everyone will be able to take something away from it as many of the tips I'll give over the course of this series will be applicable to lots of areas of life. There's just isn't enough out there on product design, compared to say cookery shows it's very under provisioned and so I'm trying to redress the balance. I have a lot more planned, so please be patient, stay tuned and follow me, so that you can be alerted to when the next video is launched. www.producttank.co.uk

Porter's Five Forces - A Practical Example

07:46
According to Porter's five forces framework the competitive environment in an industry is influenced by five forces: • The Threat of new entrants; • The Threat of substitute products; • The Rivalry among existing firms; • The Bargaining power of buyers; • And the Bargaining power of suppliers. The five forces model teaches us that competition has multiple dimensions. It is important how many direct competitors we have, but it is also important if clients can choose to use alternative products, or if new entrants are likely to enter the market and increase current levels of competition. In addition, we shouldn’t forget that clients and suppliers can have a very strong bargaining power, and dictate the terms if the companies in an industry are unable to do anything about it. HOW TO LAUNCH A PRODUCT (to existing customers)

05:31
I'm currently working on the Black Friday 3.0 launch. We're currently in the midst of the pre-pre launch where it's all about planning, planting the seed and kick-starting the buzz in the market. Planning is a huge part of any successful product launch. You should have a clear time-frame for your product launch, knowing exactly when the cart is going to open and when it's going to close, if it's going to close. Plus you should have a marketing plan and advertising budget defined so all you have to do is execute. Start with the launch goals. How much revenue do you want to make? Without a launch goal you won't be able to do great things. It's best to aim for something, even if you end up making less down the road. Then lock in each date for the pre-launch. Decide which email is sent which day, what other pre-launch content you're going to release and when you'll post on Facebook, Instagram and other platforms.

Who is a Product Manager and What do they do? [Career Insights]

07:54
The role of a product manager is crucial but also one of the least understood ones. What does a product manager really do? Is he more of a data analyst? Or someone who deals with the tech aspects of product, leading the team of engineers? Or does the product manager largely concern himself/herself with user experience, design or the overall business strategy? Mind-boggling isn't it? No wonder the role is difficult to understand for most. In this video, Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in detail the various responsibilities a Product Manager has, and that you need to execute to the best of your ability to be a good PM. If you want to bag one among the thousands of highly coveted openings for Product Managers between now and 2020 (only to grow exponentially even after), you need to start upgrading your existing skills and mastering these key skills. Product Managers are often referred to as mini-CEOs of the product. This is why, at tech companies, startups and large MNCs that are now diversifying, alike, the role of Product Managers is lucrative and one of the most important in the organization. Patent for improving existing product? - Inventor FAQ - Ask an Attorney - Legal Questions

01:33
SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=patenthome Can you get a patent for improving an existing product? Every patent pretty much read the exactly the same way; 1. There is a problem out there; 2. People have tried to solve the problem in the past; 3. Somehow the way they tried to resolve the problem has failed; and 4. This is how I corrected the problem better than anyone else. If you read any patent application it starts with a section titled Background. The Background identifies the problem and how other inventors tried to solve the problem. Also identifies what is lacking on how to better solve the problem. The next sections are the Summary and Detailed Description. The summary and the detailed description instructs someone skilled in the art how to make and use the invention. In that description the patent will describe with specificity how to overcome the problems associated with the invention in the past. So when inventing something new and improved the original patent invention can very well be part of the new invention. Remember patents do not give you the right to make something, patents give you the right to stop others from making it. For example, if you were the first person to invent the pencil, and someone else came out with the invention of the eraser, a third person could get a patent if they decided to put a piece of sheet metal at the end of your pencil and attach an erase on the end. Even though that person had a patent for a pencil and eraser, they would not be allowed to make pencil or erasers to put their pencil together because it would an infringement of the existing patents. In this circumstance the inventor of the pencil with the eraser could get cross licensing agreements or simply purchase the pencils and erasers from the patents holders to make the product. Even though all 3 elements existed in this circumstance the new, useful and non-obvious way the product was put together hypothetically allowed the patent to be issued. When you think about it, all new products are made up of existing elements such as pencils and erasers. There’s a finite number of elements in the world even if that number is astronomically large. I equate each element to keys on a piano, there’s only a finite number of keys and while Beethoven’s and the little kid playing chopsticks, both have to use the same number of keys. SWOT analysis in practice - Starbucks -------------------------------- Strategy analysis has two main branches – analysis of a firm’s external environment and analysis of a firm’s internal environment. SWOT is a famous framework that allows us to combine the two types of analysis. SWOT is sometimes referred to as internal-external analysis. The acronym SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The first two, Strengths and Weaknesses, are related to a firm’s internal environment, while the last two, Opportunities and Threats, consider its external environment. Internal strengths and external opportunities are vertically paired as helpful elements, while internal weaknesses and external threats are paired as harmful elements. if we perform a company analysis, under strengths, we would expect to see its core competences, the areas where the business excels and has a competitive advantage over competitors. Weaknesses are areas that need improvement. Such vulnerabilities place a company at a disadvantage when competing against other firms. Opportunities can be seen as favorable factors existing in a company’s external environment, in the industry where it operates, and have the potential to improve its current results and competitive positioning. Threats arise in a company’s external environment and might harm its current business.

Identifying an Existing Hot Demand Product

03:35
Thanks for watching "Identifying an Existing Hot Demand Product". Make sure you visit: https://scoie.net/8p32 ++++ CLICK SEE MORE ++++ Every small business owner knows that competition is tough, but he or she may not be able to pinpoint exactly what changes are needed in order to get to the top. Conducting business as usual may no longer be sufficient. Investing in the technology that is now available can be a great help or a bank breaker. It seems that most small business and home based business are either starving (they don’t have enough technology) or they are obese (they have every piece of new technology that comes along). There is, however, some fairly new technology that every small or home business owner needs. It can answer questions like; how can small businesses identify noteworthy trends, identify an existing hot demand and make better decisions faster. Answer - business intelligence software. Business intelligence is the crystal ball of the 21st century. Purchasing business intelligence (BI) software is one of the most strategic investments that a business can make. Using data mining, reporting and querying, BI helps businesses understand, monitor, manage and respond to specified situations. This software empowers decision-makers — and staff — to connect the dots around key business numbers in a way previously unimaginable. BI helps you figure out. 1) Which customers are profitable. 2) Which customers appear profitable but are not. 3) Are you close to — or far from — reaching critical milestones. 4) When is the best time to launch a marketing campaign. 5) What was the best performing product or service last quarter. Business Intelligence software may be more of an investment than small businesses can bear. It can certainly be pricy. Small business or home business owners, however, can subscribe to BI services on the Internet at a fairly reasonable cost. There are several to choose from. eBay also publishes a “Hot Items” list the first week of each month. It gives valuable information to eBay sellers who use drop shippers.

Once this message has been decided it is a responsibility of the user experience design team or also the entire company to make or to bring the product up to a level where it needs to this promise that has been made to the customer.

Product Management: Why Build A Brand New Product Instead Of Rebuilding Or Redesigning One

20:14
If you’ve been building a product for a while, you know it’s natural to start accruing tech debt and product debt. And there comes a point where it becomes really hard to add new features without paying down the debt through rebuilding or redesigning the product. However, there may come a point where neither of those makes sense, and you may be evaluating building a brand new product. The Pivotal Tracker team recently did this. In today’s episode, Lisa Doan, who is a product manager for Pivotal Tracker and Vera Reynolds, who is a software engineer for Pivotal Tracker, are going to walk you through how they came to the decision to build a brand new product. As you watch today’s episode you’ll learn: - What spurred the conversation to consider building a new product - Why the team chose not to redesign or rebuild the existing product - What the team did to identify the problem it was solved with the new product - Why the team held off on coding and building and what they did instead - Why software engineers benefit from being involved in the research phase of a brand new product - How to recruit new teammates to help build, and identify knowledge gaps -- Build is produced as a partnership between Femgineer ((http://femgineer.com/) and Pivotal Tracker (http://www.pivotaltracker.com/). What is QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT? What does QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT mean?

INSTALL NOW - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.LightinaBrowser_8083351 What is QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT? What does QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT mean? QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT meaning - QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT definition - QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Quality function deployment (QFD) is a method to help transform customer needs (the voice of the customer ) into engineering characteristics (and appropriate test methods) for a product or service. It helps create operational definitions of the requirements, which may be vague when first expressed. It prioritizes each product or service characteristic while simultaneously setting development targets for the product or service. As described by Yoji Akao, who originally developed QFD in Japan in 1966, it is a "method to transform qualitative user demands into quantitative parameters, to deploy the functions forming quality, and to deploy methods for achieving the design quality into subsystems and component parts, and ultimately to specific elements of the manufacturing process.", The author combined his work in quality assurance and quality control points with function deployment used in value engineering. QFD is designed to help planners focus on characteristics of a new or existing product or service from the viewpoints of market segments, company, or technology-development needs. The technique yields charts and matrices. QFD is applied in a wide variety of services, consumer products, military needs, and emerging technology products. The technique is also included in the new ISO 9000:2000 standard which focuses on customer satisfaction. While many books and articles on "how to do QFD" are available, there is a relative paucity of example matrices available. QFD matrices become highly proprietary due to the high density of product or service information found therein. Quality Function Deployment is closely related to Hoshin Kanri. The Hoshin process came before QFD and both are used to document the objectives and needs of an organization.

Why Apple Products Are Getting So Expensive

12:03
Apple has almost always had a reputation of pricing their products quite a bit higher than their competition, and this premium cost is commonly referred to as the Apple Tax. And it can be traced as far back as the original iPod in 2001, which had a starting price of $399, or about $570 adjusted for inflation. And when compared to other hard drive-based music players that sold for around $200, the iPod’s price was staggering. And when the iPhone was released in 2007, one of its biggest criticisms was its price, coming in at $499, or about $600 today, and that was with a two-year contract. And don’t forget the MacBook Air, which debuted with a $1,800 price tag. And that got you just 64GB of solid state storage. So the Apple tax is nothing new to longtime Apple users, but there has been an unusual trend upward in almost all Apple’s product categories over the past few years. And I think there’s more to that story than the Apple tax can account for.

EP11: How to Launch an Existing Product on Amazon

13:45
When a seller wants to sell your products on Amazon, the basic question you need to ask is “Are you a re-seller or a brand owner?” The reason is being a brand owner allows a lot more control over your listing, promotion and end results. When you are a reseller, you are often at the mercy of other players who compete for the buy box. http://www.coachamz.com/ep11-launch-existing-product-amazon/

Quick look at what is the ITC Market Analysis Tools suite

00:39
A key challenge for exporters is the scarcity of reliable trade information on markets. Exporters need to stay on top of competitive conditions in their current markets, scan opportunities for new markets, and look for opportunities to diversify or value-add to their existing product range. At the same time importers worldwide also seek to optimize the potential offered by preferential trade agreements and improve the efficiency of their sourcing by scanning for new and competitive supplier countries. ITC addresses these issues with a suite of market analysis tools (www.intracen.org/marketanalysis) providing related market data and information sources. The databases: Trade Map, Market Access Map, Investment Map and Standards Map aim to help users examine the export and import statistics of over 220 countries and territories to better understand supply and demand trends for around 5,300 internationally traded products. The tools are unique in product detail, as well as in breadth of geographic coverage – particularly for developing and least developed countries. More than 400,000 users in 224 countries and territories have registered to use the tools. They include enterprises, governments, educational institutions and most of the World’s top 100 companies. Developing countries can use these tools to help grow their exports by identifying opportunities for product and market diversification. A wide range of navigation options, combined with a powerful set of analytical outputs – tables, maps and charts - make it easy to analyse trade-related information for sets of products, sectors or countries. All users located in developing countries benefit from FREE ACCESS to the tools thanks to financing from the European Commission (EC) and donors to ITC Trust Fund. Most features of ITC Tools are also freely accessible to users based in developed countries and a subscription is required to gain the full access. More information is available in the ITC's MAT subscription options and fees page. #1 Marketing Idea From Breakthrough Advertising By Eugene Schwartz [Most Marketers Get This Wrong!]

11:34
Learn the #1 Marketing Idea from "Breakthrough Advertising" by Eugene Schwartz that will make you more money, guaranteed! I mentioned the 'Minimum Viable Funnel' idea to put test the marketing lesson and you can see that video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cEzmc-_GCI Copywriting is a CORE component in communicating your offer in terms of their desires and to get my free 5 step copywriting framework, go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP7rdDZmRp4 Ok, but let's dive deeper into the topic from this video. The BIG marketing idea covered in this video is the POWER of Desire! Desire is ultimately the make or break for your business... For your sales funnels... For your Facebook ads... Does the market DESIRE what you offer? Now, you need to really understand the POWER of that question above. The question is not... "Can you make the market desire your product through your ad?" But... DO THEY ALREADY DESIRE IT? Sorry for yelling. But this is a HUGE distinction. And I first learned this from Eugene Schwartz's book Breakthrough Advertising. In fact, that is exactly how he starts the book. I'll paste his exact words here for you... "Let’s get to the heart of the matter. The power, the force, the overwhelming urge to own that makes advertising work, comes from the market itself, and not from the copy. Copy cannot create desire for a product. It can only take the hopes, dreams, fears and desires that already exists in the hearts of millions of people, and focus those already existing desires onto a particular product. This is the copy writer’s task: not to create this mass desire – but to channel and direct it. Actually, it would be impossible for any one advertiser to spend enough money to actually create this mass desire. He can only exploit it. And he dies when he tried to run against it." BOOM! I recommend at least re-reading that and consider writing it out by hand with pen and paper. It's that important. You see, the key to success is really to figure out what your audience want's to buy... And sell it to them! You'll never be able to create mass desire, but you can channel it! So, working with this force will make EVERYTHING in your business easier and more profitable. Because you'll help more people get what they want. Simple? Sure.... Easy? Not quite... But you'll get better and better as long as you keep your focus on channeling the desires of your market! If you liked this marketing lesson, grab the URL above and share this video on Facebook or Twitter! Cheers. Miles
