Why graphene hasn’t taken over the world...yet

192459 ratings | 7735018 views
Graphene is a form of carbon that could bring us bulletproof armor and space elevators, improve medicine, and make the internet run faster — some day. For the past 15 years, consumers have been hearing about this wonder material and all the ways it could change everything. Is it really almost here, or is it another promise that is perpetually just one more breakthrough away? hey, look this ( https://www.vittoria.com/eu/wheel-technology ) is a bicycle industrie that provides carbon wheels with graphene. Yeah its really amazing. here in brazil we have a private institute focused in graphene study. is the Mackgraphe (https://www.mackenzie.br/mackgraphe/) i hope had helped you . thanks

I'm not too excited about graphene to be honest. I'm quite excited about aluminium. A material that will become very cheap due to the infinite recyclability. It's a cool material. It's also very environmentally friendly, something I don't think graphene will be. It'll probably be the next plastic, the next problem material we need to find new solutions for. A new headache.

A question for inquiry: What happened to Optogenetics? After that TED talk back around 2010-11, it seemed like the pharmaceutical industry was on the precipice of the most fundamental paradigm shift since the discovery of antibiotics. Where is this technology presently, and what are its hurdles yet to be overcome on its way to market emergence?

What kind of waste does graphine produce? Cuz we all know the harm plastic is doing.
Could you have a look at CNTs? They appear to have the potential for wide application, such as in desalination filters and exhaust scrubber technology. Not quite yet for precision engineering though, as most that are produced in a batch aren't homogenous.

Apparently graphene would be useful for liner in molten salt reactors. High temperature salt is very corrosive - hopefully graphene is the solution to this huge engineering problem.

but wont graphene be slower breaking down after we throw it away?.. if it does, the world need better recycling habits b4 we introduce graphene en masse or else the enviroment might suffer bigtime..

The space guy mixing metric and imperial measures - having 1.5 kg of graphene in a 30 gallon drum - might go some way in explaining why it's going nowhere.
Hemanth Kumar (3 days ago)
On those who comment against this idea, remember how much of carbon we have got around us which is tapping heat and causing global warming. Maybe if we can suck all these carbons from varied pollutants by breaking their bond and use it for some purpose would lead to a solution for global warming.
Bob Greene (3 days ago)
Graphene makes immediate sense for automobile and industrial tires. Conventional tires are way overpriced, despite the global glut of oil, and (of course) the tire makers are not complaining. With graphene, tires will last longer and sustain extraordinary road impacts for greatly increased safety and performance.

I am so stoked last time I checked on graphene the problem was making it in mass quantities. Now we have the ability to make it in mass! So next is finding the right implementations. I have no doubts it will be something common in the future look at carbon fiber. It was a super material in the 80's and 90's and now its becoming really common.

plastic is nice. composite materials have really helped society improve quality of life over the past 40+ years. Certainly computers and electronics... that are made with composite materials. It'll be interesting to see if graphene becomes a consumer common product.

Dylan Downright (3 days ago)
There's no money in making products that might outlive the person buying it. You don't think that the car manufacturers can't make engines that get 100mpg? Or will never need oil changes? It's the petro-dollar, opec, the deep state, and the nwo, they want to own all the world's resources and make us pay for it.

My favorite golf ball from Callaway has it in it. So far the testing shows it doesn't really make any difference but that is the first place I've seen it used in a mass production, consumer product kind of way. Nice video, thanks.

Someone needs to take a risk & PUSH IT TO MORE MARKETS FAST AT HIGHER PRICES. Think LED vs incandescent bulbs. Yeah manufacturers won’t be able to sell replacement parts as often- but they should ask themselves- is that a bad thing? (Besides money, of course).
Bluesky (4 days ago)
They had LEDs invented when I was in high school in the early seventies. It's only been in the last 10 years they have been commercially available for about 10 years now. It has to be refined and cheaply produced too.

From the same world that gave us a space metal that can completely rob kinetic energy of objects that come into contact with it, and another one based around it that is considered completely indestructible. As well as one that can harbor enchantments and be susceptible to magical energy.
