Best Stand up comedy sketch ever!

7698 ratings | 2476504 views
Kevin Bridges, Scottish stand up comedian, put himself on the map in 2009 at Michael MacIntyre's BBC Comedy Roadshow in Edinburgh, aired on the BBC. This video has English subtitles, due to his strong Glaswegian accent for a broader audience to enjoy! I am also from Glasgow. The jokes are way funnier if you live there.
Zach Stone (1 year ago)
I could hardly understand a word that was coming out of his mouth but at least all them other folks were into it
Stefano Pento (1 year ago)
even if i dont fully understand it, i love scottish accent
Mikael Karlsson (1 year ago)
No subtitles = reaches fewer people. It's basic maths, really. Even the most evenly delivered Londonian english needs subtitles - and not only to cater to those with hearing disabilities, but to cater to everyone who would have trouble following the sound of the voice alone. Pair the stand up routine with subtitles and it's easier for a lot of people to follow. But then again, I'm used to subtitles, living in a country where english is not the no.1 language (but it comes in as a close 2nd).

Comedy like music or the arts is quite subjective. Each to their own poison, eh!
Dangerous rc (1 year ago)
It quite clearly say in the title best comedy scetvh ever. IT WAS!!!????
Ben Coleman (1 year ago)
As an English Southerner I can happily say it didn't take me long to understand the Scots I worked with when I spent a week at Eurocentral 😀 My accents pretty good too.
Truck Taxi (1 year ago)
I got to tell you I sincerely appreciate the English subtitles for heavy English dialects
Marleo Ca (1 year ago)
It's his accent for real, or he only exaggerates it for sounding... funnier?
Espen Aven Skeie (1 year ago)
I'm Norwegian and i understand him just fine
Tim (1 year ago)
brilliant as always, love Kevin 😂
Arthur Declercq (1 year ago)
I just love the Scottish accent
Blobfish 101 (1 year ago)
can't you do the subtitles within youtube, so that they can be disabled?
Dick Swole (1 year ago)
Damn I was enjoying that, where's the rest of it =0)

racistprincess666 (1 year ago)
thanks for the sub...really helped a deaf like me...well im not really deaf...i just suck with accents
Vishal Sarmalia (1 year ago)
His 'thankyou' at 0:15 sounds like 'fuck you'. Nicest greeting ever.
wigiwouwou (1 year ago)
Let's make it official.. Scottish isn't an accent but a whole new distant language, which has nothing in common with any other one spoken by humans :p
Zaraki Kon (1 year ago)
Thx for the added subs. As a non native English speaker it just makes it that bit easier to watch.
deyon100 (1 year ago)
How can people not understand him lol I'm English and it's no trouble at all
joejitsu034 (1 year ago)
This is brilliant. Thank you for uploading

subtitles for the English speaking country that only understand their own English.... America
Gene Nelson (1 year ago)
thanks for the subtitles so us tanks from the state's can understand the gibberish you folks in the UK call English...
Gene Nelson (1 year ago)
apparently the irony of an American describing UK English as "gibberish" has been lost on a portion of the population.
motorcitycobra2009 (1 year ago)
Gene Nelson No, tanks is acceptable, Londoners may refer to you as a 'septic tank', Cockney rhyming slang for 'yank'...
iamurdad77 (1 year ago)
Gene Nelson Nah! You seem like a bit of a Sherman tank! so auto correct got it spot on.
Gene Nelson (1 year ago)
The irony was intentional, thanks for noticing
jordan smith (1 year ago)
Gene Nelson yeah it isn't an easy task understanding some people in the UK. Especially Scotland. While most scots would call English their language, they only really write in English but tend to speak a mixture of English, Scots and Gaelic. Some words sound english, some sound slightly different and other words are swapped out for something else entirely. This is why no one can truly be fluent in any language as the same language evolves differently from place to place. It doesn't mean Brits can't speak English in it's purest form. It just feels wierd when we do. The same rules apply to many places in the states although most English speakers have little to no issue understanding Americans due to your movies, tv shows and music being so widespread.
CapuletRose (1 year ago)
There's subtitles lol this is funny on its own but add the subtitles and for some reason it just make it funnier lol not that I need the subtitles
Mohammed Rashid (1 year ago)
I swear, if the subtitles weren't there, I'd not have found this funny.
frank rodriguez (1 year ago)
funny shit....😂😂
DjAlanBarratt (1 year ago)
is that an Eskimo accent?
BAFLOD (1 year ago)
10/10 translation
MetroMakeover (1 year ago)
is Scotland SO boring that this is claimed as "The best comedy routine ever"?
13thBear (1 year ago)
MetroMakeover Gawd save us all if that's the case. I didn't hear anything funny while this boy spent his time on stage gargling and making crude sounds, like somebody doing horrible things to a cow that hadn't been milked for a long time. Is this really how Scottish people sound or does this boy have a speech impediment of some type?
hind sight (1 year ago)
MetroMakeover must be it. Was waiting for the punchline so that the title might make sense. But it never came
Bill McLellan (1 year ago)
why the sub titles?
Mari Roberts (1 year ago)
I love the fact they have to put subtitles for his insanely thick Glasgow accent
John M (1 year ago)
To any non UK residents, if you come to Glasgow, AVOID people who speak exactly like this. 99% of them will be scumbags. You can tell, as when they speak, they have no concept of the word " volume ", and try intimidation tactics by talking AT YOU from approximately 2 inches away. ( I'm Glaswegian by the way, so you can't say I'm being anti Scottish).
gordon christie (1 year ago)
If i was a tourist probably wouldnt know the difference they think we all sound like Sean or the big yin anway lols
gordon christie (1 year ago)
+John M depends if they a smelly hoops fan or a Bluenose lol
BaconShrub (1 year ago)
+John M If you base your judgement of an entire peoples purely by an accent, you're the scumbag, buddy. You can't make a blanket statement like that and hope to be even vaguely accurate.
John M (1 year ago)
gordon christie Yes, ( I too speak a bit like this) but this accent is the Universal Glaswegian scumbag accent. Who would you, if you were a tourist, trust more: someone who sounds like a junkie, or someone who sounds like their parents pay for their tuition at Hutcheson's?
BaconShrub (1 year ago)
You're not necessarily being anti-Scottish, but you are insulting a whole bunch of people you've never met with a blanket statement. From where I'm sitting it's more likely that it's just you who's a scumbag, and that's why other Glaswegians don't treat you well.
gary whiteman (1 year ago)
for me he is the Scottish dave chapelle
CaptBloodeye (1 year ago)
Lowest common denominator humour. Ideal for the undereducated.
BaconShrub (1 year ago)
If you believe yourself to be so high-brow that even *a joke* is beneath you, then maybe don't watch comedy clips on YouTube. Simple.
SSTrihan (1 year ago)
You must be a riot at parties.
A. (1 year ago)
CaptBloodeye is that why you clicked in the video yeah
We get our own subtitles... Proud.
leandro arrua (1 year ago)
Not a single smile out of me. Don't get me wrong... I loved Scotland... been there and Eddie Izzard is just fabulous, so I guess it's just the type of comedy.
LiveForever (1 year ago)
needed the subtitles for the Scotsman Hahahaha it's true, there's a reason why trainspotting and filth etc had subtitles :)
G O'Brien (1 year ago)
subtitles are funny.... This is the queens englishs mofos!!!
Anthony Whelan (1 year ago)
I'm Australian and I can understand him. We are use to British comedians i. e Danny Buoy.
Martyn James (1 year ago)
+Anthony Whelan ;-)
iamurdad77 (1 year ago)
Anthony Whelan Danny Bhoy is a sad sad excuse for a comedian.
Dunc Russ (1 year ago)
+Anthony Whelan Danny Bhoy is class mate seen a few of his show when he was in aussieland. The Bhoy is because he supports celtic btw...
Anthony Whelan (1 year ago)
Ha! Ha! Sorry Martin the Pedant.
Anthony Whelan (1 year ago)
Danny Bhoy. My apologies. Gaelic spelling is it? Even though I'm Irish myself I was raised in Australia so I'm still not too familiar with the intricacies of the Irish or Scottish letter sound relationships, i.e. Siobhan. Stumps me every time. My favourite comedian would have t be Dave Allan RIP and Dara O'Briain. I quite like Stephen Colbert too. ps, Frankie Boyle is okay.
without the Scottish accent this isn't as funny so I think tge subtitles are a bit pointless
nova world1 (1 year ago)
Strong title for an average sketch
MGTOW2 (1 year ago)
that wasn't funny.

JohnConnor310355 (1 year ago)
Many English accents need tranlationsn's too.
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
JohnConnor310355 I agree lol maybe I'll consider doing a few of them but being Scottish, I felt I was better of starting at home :)
Martin Erskine (1 year ago)
Subtitles for the fuck you
Stephen Dawson (1 year ago)
why is this subtitled?
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
Stephen Dawson the fact you don't the answer to that question cracks me up :D Read how many foreign/English people have said they wouldn't understand him... nuf said really pal
Michael Tegner (1 year ago)
I am Danish but I don't have any problems understanding him, but I travel a lot and are used to accents so I gotten quite good at filling in the places where they use a word I haven't heard before or understand.
James Wilson (1 year ago)
whats with the subtitles i find that racially offensive, i would never ask for subtitles for someone from birmingham, or liverpool,
Hannah Kinton (1 year ago)
I love the posh people translations at the bottom 'tattle tale' lmao, he said grass mate😂
Firebrand VOCALS (1 year ago)
[email protected] the subtitles lol
Tonia Mp (1 year ago)
Thank you for the subtitles otherwise I wouldn't understand a single word. I like this accent though
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
Haha no problem! Many people find it challenging. When I lived in Hungary, my students were fluent in English but when we did a lesson on accents and I had them try to simultaneously translate this video to the class... well, they freaked hahaha! If you enjoyed him though, I have just uploaded two other subtitled sketches of his. :)
FatRakoon (1 year ago)
This routine is so fucking stupid, that its utterly brilliant at the same time, and while he says its based on a true story... I friggin believe it too! LOL Kevin Bridges is most definitely one of the best comedians that I have seen in a while.
iamurdad77 (1 year ago)
Kev the Rammer Kev mate! us Scots are a far more advanced People! we don't need subtitles on english comedians vids we understand every accent you people have! Even cunts from Devon and cornwall. 😉
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
Kev the Rammer haha that's not a bad idea :D I may consider it :P hahaha
Big John Fury (1 year ago)
Aiysha17 can you put Mickey Flanagans cockney stuff in Scotchish ? think there could be mileage in that for the scotch conasuir of comedic talent , Cheers

Ellie M (1 year ago)
I like the subtitles for the non weegies haaha
iamurdad77 (1 year ago)
Markuz07 Did ye Aye! it's not about the words it's the accent. The subs are not there just for Fucking English people. 😁
David (1 year ago)
Markuz07 There loads of Scottish and Irish accents that you and most people who aren't from the very specific areas would not understand. Not because of the accent but because the words are literally different. I was surprised that there were subtitles too, then I saw people in the comments saying they couldn't understand it without them. so I changed my mind.
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
Markuz07 I'm glad you understand us but many non Brits do not. in fact many Brits do not. Just like certain English accents can be hard to understand. It's not always about words used. It's about speed and intonation as much as anything else. Plus certain phrases that can be English but are hard to understand at face value unless you understand the history behind them. Language and accents are complicated. I made this for a laugh and people with a similar sense of humour appreciate it. If it's not your thing, fair dooz - but don't act like everyone in the world understands all Scottish accents, because they don't.
Ellie M (1 year ago)
I'm not saying it's all English people but some don't understand stronger accents and yeh I think those people are pretty stupid cause it ain't that hard
Markuz07 (1 year ago)
I understand even the heaviest of Scottish/Irish accents and I'm English. Get over yourselves, the only 'Scottish' word that was translated was 'aye', the rest are English words/slang that the person who made the subtitles felt like changing for some strange reason. Bloody Scottish and Irish people. 🤣
Benjamin LE PAGE (1 year ago)
English is not my native language, and I can assure that without the subtitle, I can't understand what he's saying because of his accent !
gordon christie (1 year ago)
Dundee accents if they really strong are like that too must be all the sheep shagging and inbreeding that causes it (JOKE)
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
cijmoalbal haha Aberdeen is where I'm from and if I speak my native dialect, no one outside the North east understand hahaha so I get you :D I understand all UK accents pretty well but I often have to adjust mine to plain English when I travel. I don't mind though. It just makes things easier. :)
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
Angry Scotsman haha cheers for the offer but I'm Scottish ana :D
Euan scotland (1 year ago)

cijmoalbal (1 year ago)
I'm from Loch Lomond area (originally, live in Canada now) but half of my family is from Aberdeenshire. The Glaswegians can't understand them LOL.

Jenn Starr (2 years ago)
Fantastic job
Bartholomew Ross (2 years ago)
what did he mean with "that's how i play the game" ? [sorry, i'm from china and slangs are very difficult for me... thanks in advance]
Aiysha17 (1 year ago)
It just means "that is how I do things" (like a gangster) but it is sarcasm because of course he is there to wait for a bus - like everyone else. :D I have made 2 more videos with subtitles of his work, if you want to better understand this accent? :)
