I just got done with this game and I absolutely loved it, even though there was no voice acting and no text in it I really loved the world and the character. His design was fantastic and all around such a great game. I loved it fantastic job Alx Preston and Heart Machine!!!
Yan Moistnado (1 month ago)
This game looks amazing but some hipster feeling sorry for himself is not a unique selling point for buying a videogame. Hope his health improves.
Yan Moistnado (1 month ago)
+Hyperion the game looks good and I will buy it but not because I feel compelled to pay some medical bills for a sick hipster guy. I will buy it because it looks like a good game. Just find it weird to advertise a game by documenting health problems.
Hyperion (1 month ago)
What is a selling point then if not for the fact that "this game looks amazing"?
Gabriel Caro (2 months ago)
IGN is fucking stupid, they ain’t shit compared to this dude. I give IGN a 0/10, they fist fucked my heart.

This story really inspired me to get the game and start a let's play series on it. Can't recommend it enough, very well done.

This game is gorgeous and so creative! love the visuals like crazy!
Brian The Destroyer (10 months ago)
I mean throwing my tuppence in. I thought lots of the game had very destiny vibes about it. (You have a little ghost - like machine following you. You are basically a scifi-knight/samurai.) But was done infinitely better. However, I'm surprised I didn't see this. The game is so open ended about its themes, you could really take almost anything away from it. Possibly one of the best games ever made.
Antediluvian Spy (10 months ago)
and it was ruined due use of GamerMaker 2 a shitty engine. Much like a shitty heart.

This dude is an inspiration. I may not be suffering from something as bad as him, but I do have horrible genetic defects in my arms and can barely feel my hands and am always in pin. I'm trying to make my own Visual Novel games and it makes me really happy to see others who are hurting, do the same. :)

Aaaaaaand pirated!
Da Drumma (11 months ago)
They created an incredible game here, nearly perfect in all regards. Some people are concerned about the difficulty, but I've been playing it on normal mode with a keyboard and it's really not very difficult, at least when compared to the old school games it's based on.

Ad Ici De (1 year ago)
Can't be bothered to care about a meat eater like him, hunched in his bathrobe, of all things, over a plate of pig flesh and wallowing in his art, in LA of all places. Also hard to care for a dude who clearly feels very sorry for himself already, to the point of making the whole video game ABOUT HIMSELF and making you pay for it to play. Like, I am paying to play a fantasized version of a guy on a couch eating pig flesh. A guy who also named his company after the one thing that seems to be defining him from beginning to end. Heart machine. No, thanks.
randomguy6679 (1 year ago)
Gee Poope also it's $15, boo fucking hooo, that's so much money, developers need to eat and sleep too.

at 05:22 you can see the manga 'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' on Alx's desk and at 03:56 there's a clip of the fleshy colossus creatures from Hyper Light Drifter disintegrating in the wind, creatures that look eerily similar to the God Warriors from Nausicaa... It's cool to see this game was inspired by lots of different media.
Skorbutt (1 year ago)
wonderful game, truly a work of art
LiQuid (1 year ago)
I still don't have a clue why it took that much money. Creativity, sound and visual design talent, immense amount of programming I understand but what's with the money? Is it to make up for all the lost time of the lives of the team members or has it gotta do with technical stuff like program licenses etc? On pen and paper, would it be possible to design the same game with no funding over a time period of 5-6 years and autistic level dedication?
Swansen03 (1 year ago)
LiQuid. depends on how you look at it. One's time doesn't actually cost money but society does. Original estimate was 30k. 600k is just what they ended up getting from donation/funding campaign. Look at c&c reborn or overgrowth alpha.. theory vs actual application.. having money makes doing and making things a lot easier.. (or in the least much less stressful)

playing this right now on steam. great title.
Psych Cow (1 year ago)
Pretty sure this guy *is* depressed, and telling jokes doesn't really negate that, humor is a pretty common mechanism for covering depression. Obviously I cant KNOW, but it really seems like he's deflecting his real issue and saying the game is about this "cure", but it's a struggle to find a cure in a world that's almost entirely devoid of companionship. I may be reading too much into what is just a lack of sleep, but the doctor saying he "seems depressed" really gnaws at me... I dunno, I hope this guy's alright
Mitch S (2 months ago)
I don't think they were disputing the fact that he's depressed. I think they were just talking about his attitude while being depressed.
John Walden (9 months ago)
Dude he's been dealing with a serious heart condition for his entire life. The fact that he's made it this far and has achieved what he's achieved is pretty incredible. I think that's a pretty strong testimony to his resilience as a person.
